Scarlet turned to look at him.

“We did not ‘get away’ as you put it,” Belle interjected. “Deacon gave us our freedom.”

The area went utterly quiet as the men all stared at her.

Nodding, she crossed her arms over her chest and went on, “After he shot Wade for trying to attack Scarlet.”

“Ok, that makes no sense,” I said. “Why did he take you, Scarlet and he had Wade help?”

“It was all a plan to get us safe,” Belle stated.

“Safe from who?” I asked.

“All of you,” Belle said as she pointed all around at the men.

To say, the ‘men’ she pointed at looked gobsmacked, would be putting it lightly.

Talon shook his head. “The man is a killer, a human trafficker, he pushes drugs and he has kept us hiding nearly underground while threatening to wipe us all out, our women and children too.”

“Oh, yeah?” Belle countered. “And what proof do you have of this?”

Dagger stepped close. “How about the fact that he and O, his dear old mom, framed me and I spent 7 years in prison? Or the fact that she took so many lives by either selling them as slaves or killing them herself, all while this sweet innocent Deacon stood at her side.”

Belle stared at him as she suddenly looked afraid at his fierce tone and the rage on his face.

“Or, how about her killing her husband,” he went on in a low hate filled tone. “Then she murdered my father as well as Sofia’s parents.” Dagger seethed. “No, she was hell itself and he is hell’s spawn, only caring about continuing her reign of fucking terror.”

“Dagger!” Talon shouted. “Back off.”

Dagger slowly shook his head as he looked disgusted. “Innocent? You are a fool little girl, if you believed a word he said.” Turning, he stalked back over to his bike.

Belle looked a bit shell shocked as she replied, “B-but he’s an FBI agent, he works for the government.”

Talon shook his head. “His mother set that up and yes, he became an agent, but it was so she would always have an inside ear and a set of eyes to what they had on her or other information she needed to operate. You can think what you want, but we are just a family trying to hang on to our kids and wives. Trying to survive until Deacon is gone.”

“Then why did he do all of this?” Belle asked.

“Well, that’s a damned good question,” I finally spoke up. “What did he do, with you I mean.”

Belle shrugged. “A couple of weeks ago, he contacted me and asked me if I knew where my sister was. I didn’t know. Just that she called and told me she was okay. He said she was forced to do that and that he wanted to help me. I asked him why and he asked to meet me. Then when I did, he showed me his badge and told me that the FBI had been after the Walkers for years. I asked him why. All they had ever done was to help Ramton. He showed me lots of proof of crimes you all committed under the guise of being helpful.”

“Well, whatever he showed you was cooked up and he is good at that.” Talon stared at her. “But we don’t care what you believe, when you meet the Walker family you will know right away that he was lying.” He turned and called to his men, “Round up, we are gonna head out.”

I looked down at Scarlet. “Are you really okay? I mean I see your lip is cut.” I passed my finger softly over it.

“I never felt it. In fact, I stood up to Wade. All I cared about was Belle. But I still don’t understand why Deacon did all this.”

I paused. “He had an angle. Men like him always do.”

“I wondered the same thing,” Scarlet said. “I knew he was playing some game, but I just couldn’t figure out what it could be? He didn’t take me or Belle to hold it against you guys. That’s what he usually does, right?”

I nodded as she had a point. This was all for nothing or so it seemed. “We’ll take the Camaro.”

I moved her toward the car.

Liberty stepped up. “I will ride with you.”

I rolled my eyes. “Come on, Liberty.”
