I said nothing as I did so, I refused to embarrass myself anymore today. I raised my head to look around and I saw Belle on Talon’s bike. It figured as she saw him as the one in charge, so she would choose him. He seemed safe to her. Not that many men did. She sure didn’t seem to realize that she did hate men in general. I felt that stab of guilt about this fact. I gave her the worst examples in my past.
Tightening my grip around Justice’s waist, I held on as he took off down the road. I pushed my face against his shoulder. At least, I was alive and so was he. Belle was safe and…Wade was gone. I never even thought it would be him at the meet site. Of all the people I pictured, I never saw him as a part of this.Never say never… I remembered these words coming from my mother one time. She said it in reference to what you thought you would never do or never say in the future, especially if you were young. I also remembered what the subject had been.
After Harlon had broken my heart, I was devastated. Believing that I had finally found a man that was worth it. Then he had been lying the entire time I went out with him. No, it hadn’t been the average cheating husband scenario but to me, I only saw it like that at the time. I had told my mom, “Never again. I will never trust a man again.”
Now here I was, holding onto the man who had reversed that never. I felt so glad to be with him. He stayed right by my side through this mess, even agreeing to my crazy plan of getting Belle back. As angry and frustrated as I had been with her, I just felt grateful she was unharmed and safe now. Or was she? Was I for that matter? Deacon had gone to a hell of a lot of trouble to find out where the Walkers were hiding. He’d worked on this diabolical plan for nearly a month. Freeing Wade, convincing Belle and springing a trap to finally catch the Walkers.
However, it was Justice that figured it all out. Now, we had a counter plan. I finally raised my head to look up. The cerulean blue sky was passing by as wispy clouds drifted. The late afternoon sun warmed my cheeks. I suddenly realized that my body felt free with the wind blowing over it as the scenery flew by. I never understood the whole motorcycle thing before. I only thought men liked it because it fed their ego to ride a loud roaring machine. Now, I had to rethink this opinion. I never felt so light and untethered before. I liked it and especially now, since I was just freed from two monsters, Wade and Deacon.
I even felt free of my past finally. I again hugged Justice tighter and got as close as I could to him, but how could I feel so happy? We were headed to a place where an all out war could possibly happen. I think I was just relieved that we all got out alive. Deacon was seriously insane, blowing up that quarry like he had. From what I understood, he blew up an entire city block in town, right under the Cotton Candy club. What kind of man did these kinds of things? Then the angry look I saw on his face when I accused him of wanting to blow up the Walker ranch, killing women and children. Hadn’t that been what the Walkers had heard?
I needed to rest, I knew this but after the last few hours, my mind and body wouldn’t settle. The bike ride helped though, asit was somehow cathartic. When the motorcycle slowed down, I raised my head from Justice’s shoulder to see where we were.
I’d never been out this way that I remembered, I think we were on the south side, past Ramton. Justice turned, following Talon and the others onto a paved road with a rather long driveway. It seemed to be much smoother than the county road we just left. Finally, I could see the house. Wow, it was an estate. We were gonna use this to have a battle?
Justice pulled up alongside the other bikes and stopped. He stared up at the house just like I did. “Talon, this is where we are going to…” He shook his head.
“Yeah, I think it’s the Hatterson’s Estate,” he replied.
“The last one died a year or so ago,” Liv came on. “According to Sofia, it went into a trust and since everyone in this area is broke, it just sits there.”
Men came around from the back. Rebel Saints. They all had lawn equipment, some weed whackers and others had shears.
“We found out it doesn’t need the paint,” Liv came over. “But the inside is dusty as fuck. I have a cleaning crew working on it. We don’t know how long you all will have to wait there.”
I looked over to see Belle attempting to get off of Talon’s ride and she had trouble getting her foot over the seat.
Liberty was next to them as he climbed off of Ranger’s bike. He chuckled and stepped forward to catch her as she was about to land on her butt.
Belle gasped then realized someone had a hold of her. “Let go of me!” She fussed and struggled.
Liberty looked a bit surprised, so he let her go.
She stumbled as if trying to get her land legs and then fell on her butt.
Liberty with his bad manners of course…laughed.
“Oooh! I swear to God!” Belle stood up and dusted her backside off.
Justice and I stared at the couple as Justice whispered to me, “You do know that living with your sister and my brother will not be a peaceful experience, right?” He chuckled.
I kept shaking my head. “Living? I think she might try to kill him after a few days.”
“That’s the usual reaction to him, so I can see that happening.”
I shook my head.
“Babe?” he said.
“Yeah?” I answered.
“You have to get off the bike before I can dismount,” he explained.
I started and said, “Oh, I am so sorry!”
Justice laughed. “It’s ok, I sure loved you hugging my back. I actually just sat here revelling in it, to be honest.”
I smiled at his honesty as I managed to climb off without catching my foot like my sister did.
