“You got an incoming copter,” Logan said over the comm.
“Rebels, kill the last few and then we gotta run,” Talon said over the comm.
“Run, my ass,” Tank came over the comm.
I dodged a few bullets and then I heard Talon say, “You got a lock on it, Tank?”
“I do, but you all better take cover.”
“Where?” Liberty shouted.
“As far as you can go,” Tank replied. “Just don’t be here.”
“Fire in the hole!” Talon said over the comms.
Liberty and I as well as many others took off to the brushland on each side of the large driveway. As I passed a bike on the ground, a gun came up in the rider’s hand, aiming it back at Liberty. “Hey!” I shouted at him.
The man startled and aimed his weapon at me then he let off a shot.
“The fuck!” Liberty yelled as he paused to look down and shot the rider in the head.
I tried to keep moving but my shoulder hurt like hell and I was bleeding all over the place.
Liberty came up and tucked himself under my arm. “Let’s go,” he urged as we made our way out, two by two.
Suddenly, the sound of a screaming missile hitting metal was all that could be heard. A metallic shrieking and a loud whirring echoed out as the explosion boomed. It sounded like Godzilla fighting King Kong and they had just knocked a skyscraper over. The noise lasted a full three or four minutes as smoke plumed out from wherever it hit.
Once it quieted down, Liberty yelled over the comm, “Justice’s been hit.”
“What?” Scarlet’s voice came over.
“Flesh wound,” I said.
“Where are you?” Scarlet asked.
“The hell if we know,” Liberty replied.
“Ranger, drive,” Scarlet shouted. “Turn this thing around!”
“Now, wait just a minute,” Ranger replied.
“I mean it!” Scarlet said.
“Baby, calm down,” I said.
“Oh, I will as soon as we find you.”
“Stay where you are, all of you,” Talon ordered. “We are still clearing these guys out. Some of them are still shooting at us.”
“Get one or two alive, Talon,” I grunted as I spoke into the comm. “We need intel.” I felt a bit lightheaded as Liberty finally lowered me down onto the ground.
“Roger that,” Talon said.
“Brother, you don’t look so good,” Liberty said.
“Is he okay, Liberty?” Scarlet came over the comm.
“I’m fine,” I replied as the sky spun above me and the lights went out.
