He motioned for me to ease off of him.

I slid over carefully and glanced down at Justice. To see all the dried blood on him rattled me all over again. As I tucked my earpiece on, I waited for his verdict.

Ranger checked his pulse then looked at his wound. “He needs the sleep as his body has been through a trauma. His bleeding stopped but until we know about the bullet, we need to be careful.”

“Logan says the roads are clear all the way to the house,” Talon’s voice came over the comm.

“So we can go home?” I asked.

“Yeah, but it still makes me nervous,” Talon replied. “Take a look at the Hatterson’s Estate, that could have been the Connor House.”

I now realized we were parked all the way at the front gate or what was left of it. I looked over at the main house and my eyes rounded.

The entire area was pure devastation. The house was half gone, the driveway was mostly gone too. The garage we sat in front of earlier was all caved in. I couldn’t blame Talon for being afraid for all the Walkers.

I heard what they were saying even as I had trouble keeping my eyes open. “Don’t endanger them just for me.”

“We aren’t,” Talon replied as he leaned over the side of the truck bed to look down at me. “We have scouted the entire area and there are no signs of him monitoring us.”

“It doesn’t mean he isn’t,” I replied.

“He had two drones out,” Logan came over. “He uses them like I do and we took them out a half hour ago. So, he is attempting to follow.”

“We cannot stay out in the open anymore either,” Talon said.

“I wonder how many helicopters he has?” I muttered.

“We have seen the two,” Talon answered. “He wasn’t using the transport copter today.”

“You think he was in it?” I asked him. “I mean the one with the missile?”

“Hell no,” Talon growled. “The man sent them all here to fight for him. He’s somewhere regrouping or celebrating.” He shrugged. “Well, maybe he’s not celebrating as he lost a lot of men here today.”

“Did you find any alive?” I asked.

“No. I’m afraid my men are that good.”

“I don’t like it,” I said. “He could find a way to tail us. And since there are now what? Forty of us? That would be easy to spot.”

“Yeah, you're right,” Talon said. “But we already destroyed or helped to destroy one estate. That’s gonna cost me when I get access to my bank.”

“Access?” I stared up at him.

“Sure, I will be paying market value to whoever inherited this place.”

“You have that kind of money?” I exclaimed.

“I do, it accumulated over the years, but let’s change the subject. I noted that you have great instincts.”

Scarlet, who had been silent, finally spoke, “I noted the same thing.”

“Ok, but this is just a feeling,” I said. “He always plans ahead, right?”

“Yeah, him and his mother.” Talon scoffed.
