“Well, shit,” Liberty grumbled.
“Logan is now sabotaging it,” Ranger added.
Tank came on the comm and said, “We got visitors.”
I still wore my comm and I looked over at Justice to let him know, “Someone’s coming.”
Ranger started the truck and pulled out of the spot.
Belle turned her head to look back at me and asked, “What do you mean…someone?”
“Hang on,” Ranger warned as he drove. “This is gonna get dicey.”
I looked back and spotted Tank on a bike behind us, then I saw at least four other motorcycles coming into the lot.
Ranger tore around to the edge of the lot and took the exit. “Tank, you need to get ahead of us, you will get hit.”
That was when the gunshots started coming from the bike riders.
Belle screamed and hunched over in the seat.
“Did you get hit?” Liberty asked her in concern.
“No! I’m just scared!” she exclaimed.
“Head to the car wash!” Justice yelled as he tried to dig out his comm from his jeans pocket with his free hand.
I reached over and slapped his hand away to dig it out myself. Retrieving it, I placed it on his ear as the truck swerved.
“Tank, take a side road and head to the car wash,” Justice ordered into the comm.
I looked back to see the cycle moving closer just as Tank turned off onto a side road. “He’s clear,” I said.
“Well, we aren't,” Ranger said while he went around a car as the motorcycles were close on our tail. Downtown wasn’t a place for races, especially in the late afternoon. Traffic was clogging the streets. “Hang on!” Ranger called out as he took a turn at high speed. The truck nearly tilted sideways and almost jackknifed.
My donut and coffee almost made an exit as my stomach lurched.
Liberty rolled the window down and hung out of it as he gripped his gun and let off a few shots.
I had my head trained on the street behind us and saw one bike had lost its rider then it slid across the pavement with sparks flying from its frame. A car tried to miss it in the other lane but it didn’t as it went up over a curb and crashed through a storefront window.
“Got one!” Liberty cheered as he let off another shot. He got the second one too, as the rider flew off his bike as his ride slid sideways into a light pole. “Right into the pocket!” he cheered.
“This cannot be happening!” Belle yelled.
Ranger finally slowed the truck down as we got to the carwash.
I turned to see Tank was now heading at us with one hand on his bike throttle and the other holding a large Magnum. He swerved around us and my head turned as my gaze followed him.
The big guy hit one rider then another. Both men had to be dead instantly since he’d aimed for their heads as their bikes slid along with a loud metallic screeching then crashed into parked cars.
The truck came to a horrendous halting stop and we were inside the carwash.
“Well, that was fun,” Justice said.
“Fun?” Belle exclaimed as she finally sat up. “You people are insane!” She looked over at Liberty. “Especially you. Who does that, hanging out of a moving vehicle?”
Liberty smirked at her. “Haven’t you ever lived on the wildside, sugar?”
