“No, and if this is it…I don't want to!”
“Belle, calm down, ok?” I told her.
She looked white as a sheet as she turned to glare at me. “You mean to tell me that didn’t scare the hell outta you, Scarlet?”
I nodded. “Of course it did, but you need to calm down. We got through it.”
“I am gonna scout the area,” Tank came over the comm. “Have a nice trip down.”
Belle gasped as she looked over through the side window. “And we are going down now?” she whispered in a hushed tone.
I looked up to see metal walls instead of the car brushes. “Yeah, this was how Wade escaped with me.”
“Oh God, oh God,” Belle repeated as she tried to take a breath.
“We will be out of this in a minute,” I told her. “It will be ok, Belle. I promise.”
Belle just kept shaking her head while breathing heavily.
Liberty glanced back at me. “She’s having an anxiety attack, I think?”
I was a little panicked now as I didn’t know what to do, so I stood from the seat and tried to reach for her.
Liberty shook his head at me and grabbed Belle up to hold her as he wrapped his arms around her.
I halted and then slowly sat back down while wondering how well this would go over. She did not like this man at all.
Belle was still shaking badly but she seemed to breathe a little easier and she quieted down.
The truck now landed on the metal tunnel floor with that familiar metal bang. Ranger turned his headlights on and drove off it.
Once the metal walls disappeared, Belle stirred in Liberty’s arms and then gasped as she pushed away from him.
He shrugged and then smiled at her. “Feel better now?”
She refused to answer as she leaned forward to peer through the window. “Where are we?”
“Are you gonna freak out if we tell you?” Liberty asked.
Letting out an aggravated huff, she again gave him no reply.
“It’s a tunnel,” Justice answered her. “Deacon and his mom seemed to like it below ground. You know, like any run of the mill vampires.”
“A tunnel?” she asked. “This large?”
“Yes, large enough to move weapons, men and drugs,” Justice explained.
“So, why are we in it?” She kept looking around.
“Weren’t you just there with the rest of us?” Liberty asked. “We had guys shooting at us.”
“So, where does it lead to?” she asked yet another question.
“Freedom, we hope,” Justice answered her again.
“I am wondering the same thing, Justice,” I said. “I mean when will it be safe to go home?”
He reached over to take my hand. “I hope soon, but until we come out on the other side, we can’t ask Talon anything.”
