“So, we now believe that he in fact, knew where we were hiding all along, Zed,” Fate informed him.”

Zed nodded as he didn’t look surprised to hear this. “The one thing ya’ll do not seem to understand is that he has all the time and the funds in the world to keep this shit up. The man in fact, probably wants to stretch out this war game, chess match, end of days crap for as long as possible.”

“He took Ma and Jarret,” Glory told him.

“The hell?” Zed looked upset to hear this.

She looked over at me. “I’m so grateful for what you did. Getting Ma and Dad freed.”

“I didn’t like what he said though,” Fate said. “Briget owing him one.”

I let out a sigh and said, “I think it was a joke?”

“I’ve said it before,” Justice spoke up. “He is totally insane.”

Belle sighed. “I want this all to be over and done with.”

“Talon says that will only happen if Deacon is dead,” Fate suggested.

“I’m not sure about that,” Scarlet replied. “You all seem to forget about his sister. Jewel said she is as dangerous as he is.”

“She is,” Zed said. “I overheard her yelling at a Russian guard. She’s not all there, believe me.” He looked around. “Ok, so after the day you’ve all had, you need to take it easy. I called for pizza and sandwiches. A couple of cases of Dr. Pepper and a case of sweet tea. I had the guys set it all on the tables over there by the hall. Take what you need and you can go to your usual rooms. Again, welcome home, Walkers.” With that huge grin on his face, he tipped his black cowboy hat at us.

Chapter Nineteen:My Fate

Fate

Grabbing Briget’s hand, I tugged her to the table. She took two Dr. Peppers and two iced teas. I grabbed a pizza box and a sandwich bag in case she wanted one. We then headed down the hallway. I went about seven doors down and stopped.

The door had a plaque on it and Briget read it aloud, “Fate.”

I laughed as I turned the knob and opened the door. “Everyone has a plaque, just so you know. I mean I know it looks egotistical.”

Laughing, she went in after me. “It’s pretty cool, I think.”

We both heard it then…Barking.

Turning, we watched as Daisy came barreling down the hallway and zipped into my room. Belle had said she would take the terrier to Liberty’s room. Well, Daisy had her own ideas.

Chuckling, I set the pizza box and bags down onto the table. Then texted Liberty that Daze was with me. Putting my phone away, I looked up at Briget.

Sitting on the small leather couch with Daisy sitting next to her, she smiled at me.

I halted as I stared at her. “I never dreamed that when we went to Louisiana to free Glory, that I would find you. That my girl would be here sitting on my couch.”

Bridget’s eyes widened a bit and she shook her head. “Well, I never thought a guy like you would be in front of my door, trying to get me to come out of my apartment.”

I moved closer and looked down at her. “I…I think I knew I was going to meet my woman after I heard your voice.”

Staring up at me with stunned surprise on her face, she blinked at me. “Really?”

“Really. I was so captivated by your comebacks from behind that door. Then when I saw you, my heart literally jumped in my chest.”

Bridget laughed in disbelief. “Oh, come on!”

I knelt down on one knee and took her hand in mine. “You are my future. I knew it in my heart then. Now, I know it is a reality.”

Yap, yap.The little terrier had to bark her two cents in.
