Reaching for my hand, he plucked the magnum from my grasp as he gave me a smile. “You will not be needing this.” He set it on top of the closed first aid kit then he peered down at my bare feet. “You actually came out here toting a gun but you aren’t wearing any shoes?”

I scoffed. “Who needs shoes when you have one of these?” I plucked the gun back up and gave him a toothy grin.

“You are one scary babe, Glory. That’s why I believed you were very worthy of a tattoo. Because you are a true badass.” He gave me a wink.

“Damn, I love that you are openly flirting with me like this.” I leaned in close and said, “I have wanted you to do that for years now.”

“I will be doing a lot more than flirting, sweetness. But truthfully, we don’t need any stoking. Our fire is almost too much as it is. And I won’t be leaving you, Glory. I promise. It took me too long to stop denying us, so I sure as hell won’t be parted from you now.”

“Ohhh…I know that!” I exclaimed. “I wasn’t saying you would. Cause that ain’t happening.”

He stared at me then he laughed.

“If you go back,” I added. “I would go with you.”

“What?” he asked in obvious surprise as his laughter faded swiftly.

“Damn right,” I said. “I won’t be without you ever again. So that is not an option.”

“Well, I guess they could use your psychology degree there,” Legend speculated. “My dad alone is an ego-manic-depressive with a double-bio-polar complex.” He laughed.

I rolled my eyes. “There’s no such thing, Legend.”

“Oh, really?” he retorted. “The man is like Al Capone mixed with a bit of a Jefferey Dommer. Or maybe he’s half Hannibal Lecter and half Godfather?”

“You are making this shit up!” I accused him while laughing. “At least, I hope you are.”

He shrugged. “Yeah, maybe I am, but I’m not sure there would be a lot for you to do there? I don't think you would enjoy that life much.”

“Why?” I asked, feeling curious about his family and home.

“He would have us going to parties at mansions owned by other mafia members and socializing to get some deal going or brownie points with some upscale family. Maybe we would even fly to Italy for some deal or another. I have family there too. They still kept in touch or at least they used to? I haven’t been home in ten years though. So, I don’t know what might have changed. But it would be like a social butterfly life, ya know? I think it would bore you actually.”

“I think we should go,” I stated clearly.

He blinked at me while looking confused. “What?”

“For a visit only. You need to be face to face with him, Legend. Let him know that you and I will visit often, but yourreal home is with the Walkers. That way, he can see you but he will have to face the fact that you have another life now. Or he will keep trying to butt in and push as you called it. Besides, you’re already a doctor and we are gonna get married and have a family.”

He slowly shook his head and laughed. “You got this all figured out, do ya?”

Nodding, I smirked at him. “I have had a long time to plan this. So let me enjoy it. I mean, I left it up to you for like what? The last five years. And you finally gave in yesterday?”

Legend shrugged as he wore a grin. “Ok, point made. I’m slow on some things.”

“Yeah, you can be. But in life, these things shouldn't wait too long. So, I’m not gonna wait around another seven years for you to propose and plan a wedding, then finally get married, ten damn years from now. I’m not gonna be as patient as I have been.”

“Patient?” He scoffed. “Remember your last birthday?”

Nodding my head, I did remember it well. “Yes, with the red dress. Of course, I remember.”

“That damn dress caused many nights of insomnia for me,” he admitted. “But it wasn’t just that. I’m talking about the cake you rudely pasted on my face.”

“Oh, the cake!” I burst out with laughter as I knew what he meant now. Yes, I did exactly that. I was so mad about the failure of the sexy red dress. It didn’t get to him like I’d wanted. He seemed to be unaffected by its purpose which had been just one thing… me seducing him that night. In fact, I had planned for him to be my birthday present. So, I grabbed a plate of cake and sashayed my way over to him. I gave him my most dazzling smile I could muster and boldly offered, ‘Let’s go to my room and share some cake.’

Staring at me now, Legend let out an uneasy breath as he openly admitted, “I wanted to so badly. Damn, I was hard as a freakin’ diamond when I caught the scent you were wearing. Your…” he paused. “...that dress had too much cleavage showing, that was for damn sure. I could almost taste you. I actually opened my mouth to say yes. Then your dad walked by us. I got a case of the guilts and I know I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

I agreed with this, “No, you shouldn’t have said,‘it’s too much sugar for me.’So you got what you deserved.”
