Gazing into my eyes, he whispered, “Let’s get some sleep, little girl. We will probably be on the road to New Orleans tomorrow.”

“Goody,” I cheered. “Road trip with my man.”

Legend shook his head. “Glad you are back to calling me a man.”

“Oh, hell yeah, the way you handle me and make my body sing? Definitely a man.” I nodded my head.

With a wide smile, he caressed my hair as my head rested on his chest. “Good night, my Glory.”

“Good night, my Legend,” I whispered back as my throat swelled a bit. Tears filled my eyes, though I wouldn’t let them fall. They weren't tears of laughter. No, they were overwhelmed by feeling grateful tears.Legend and I are together. The thought repeated itself in my brain all over again…Here I was wrappedup in his arms, listening to his heartbeat while falling asleep with him.

I still couldn’t believe it.

Chapter Thirteen:The Fire

Legend

I opened my eyes to see the sun streaming in through the curtains as it lit up the room. With a groan, I tried to move and found that I was pinned to the mattress by a warm body. I had to pause to realize I was actually in Glory’s room, in her bed. She was fast asleep on top of me, like a dream I had once, a very long time ago. Only it wasn’t a dream…Glory and I were finally together.

And the sky hadn’t fallen.

The world didn’t stop turning and everything seemed fine. For all this time, I had been too afraid to be with this woman. I had good reasons, or so I’d thought. Years ago, the reason had been that we were both too young. But afterward in the years that followed, I admit I almost waited too long.

When she’d been taken hostage by Deacon, I had regretted pushing her away for all that time. I knew I’d missed my chance and I had to face the fact that I might never see her again. I couldn’t talk to anyone about it even though the days she was missing were nothing but hell for me. Suddenly, the world had gone dark and nothing mattered. That week felt like a year. It felt like forever. Then after we got her back, I didn’t make a move. My family would still be mafia and my rules for involving the Walkers in that world had remained the same.

As I laid here listening to her little snore, I grinned and I had to admit…I had been wrong. We were meant to be together. She had been right all along.

Moving a little, Glory grunted in her sleep then she suddenly flipped over, her elbow smashing right onto my nose.

“Owww!” I exclaimed as my hand went to my nose. I then realized it was bleeding.

Sitting up in bed, Glory stared down at me and gasped. “Oh, my God!”

I rolled over and grabbed the tissue box from the nightstand.

“Legend, what happened?” she asked.

I didn’t answer right away as I was trying to cover my nose to staunch the blood.

“I did it?” she asked as she seemed to realize she might have done it while she rubbed her elbow.

I laughed and nodded. “You were asleep.”

She rose up and rushed to the bathroom.

I admit as she hurried away, all I could do was stare at her bare ass.Damn.I would never get tired of seeing her like this.

Running back to me with a damp washrag in her hand, she jumped onto the bed. “You’re bleeding!”

“Yeah, I know.” I chuckled. “But it's not a lot.”

“I can’t believe…” Shaking her head, she replaced my tissues with the washcloth.

The bleeding slowed and I removed the cloth to say, “I always knew loving you would be dangerous.”

Pausing, she smiled at me. “Dang right.”

I then looked her up and down. “I think I ought to tell you that if you don’t cover that sweet body up…” I gave her a wink. “We may not be leaving this room for breakfast anytime soon.”
