Fate finally blurted it out, “Your dad sent those two bodyguards that were here before and a limo driver.”
“Along with a limo of course,” Liberty added as he chuckled. “Very posh.” He nodded as he went on, “I even climbed inside to check it out. Has a bar and a fully stocked mini fridge. Vibrating seats and a TV too. The works, man. Has to be a few hundred K worth of a vehicle. And just like Fate said, I've ridden in a few limos when I was on the MMA circuit but this one is like top-tier, man.”
“Ok, ok,” Glory snipped impatiently. “Is that all?”
“Is that all?” Fate asked. “Were you two expecting this?”
“Yes and no,” I replied.
They all looked over at me.
I shook my head. “He never wastes time and I can see he hasn’t changed.” I referred to my father of course.
“Ok, so you two goofs can go now,” Glory said as she reached for the door knob.
Fate and Liberty were both grinning while not looking surprised by Glory’s action as the door slammed shut in their faces.
Grabbing my arm, she tugged me along to the bed and we sat down on the mattress.
“So a limo ride to New Orleans?” she asked.
I shrugged and asked, “If that’s okay with you?”
She snickered. “Ride in a truck possibly with my brothers yacking the whole time at us… Or just you and me in a luxurious limo with all the amenities?” She slowly shook her head. “What a hard choice to make.”
I chuckled. “Well, Tito and Rocky aren’t quiet men. So I'm not sure about it being quiet?”
Glory shook her head. “It’s the annoyance level, Legend. Those two giants were awesomely sweet to you. I liked them.”
I shrugged. “They are great guys really and they know their jobs. Years back, they had always been supportive of me. But to be honest, I’m not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, my father is doing it again. Trying to control everything. On the other…it would be safer to take him up on this. I mean no one will get through Tito and Rocky to do us any harm. But we can’t take this limo and let him think that he’s going to run our lives. So as soon as we get there, I will have to let him know that.”
Glory wrapped her arms around my neck and admitted, “I’m not used to being told what to do as you know, Legend. And I know that you told me not to like…argue with him and I can’t guarantee that I won't. But I will try to behave.”
I smiled at her. “Try?”
She laughed. “Ok, it sounds lame. But I will make an effort.”
I pressed my lips against hers and teased, “I know you. If he makes you mad, all bets are off.”
She snickered. “As long as we both stand together unified, he cannot win.”
I kissed her lips gently and briefly as I agreed, “You’re right. So let’s get showered, dressed and go see about getting some breakfast.”
Glory beamed at me as she asked, “We are gonna shower together?”
I laughed as I stood her up and tugged her sheet dress from her. “I think we are acquainted enough to have a hot shower together.”
“Hot?” she teased. “That’s the only part of what you just said that I paid any attention to.”
I shook my head. “You are a true Walker, Glory. You know that, right? You and your brothers are a hoot.”
“Well geez, Legend, there’s no reason to insult me, ya know? My brothers…” she huffed.
I scooped her up and said, “Ok, sorry about that. Let’s get showered.”
“Oh, yes!” she cheered. “Let’s do that!”
Laughing at her childlike enthusiasm, I carried her to the bathroom, setting her on the counter. Turning, I leaned into the shower to start the water spray. Then I realized that this washershower after all, so I said, “I hope you don’t have like flowery body wash.”
