Seizing the moment, he pounced, pulling her down onto the bed to claim her once again.

Chapter 12 Don’t Flirt With My Sister

Emily picked up a chicken tender from the plate in the center of the table and took a small bite, chewing slowly. Across from her, Adam’s sharp eyes never left her as he ate his dinner. They were seated in a private, high-end restaurant where few could secure a reservation.

His gaze lingered on her, and finally, he asked, his voice calm but probing, “Where were you whenever I or Mom and Dad asked you to meet up? You always had some excuse and didn’t show up.”

Emily bit her lip, unable to admit the truth—that she’d isolated herself trying to impress Lucas, desperate for his attention like a neglected child.

The humiliation of it all made the words impossible to say aloud. Instead, she forced out a lie. “It was nothing. I was just trying to build my career. I thought if I focused enough, it’d be better to have a little distance from everyone.”

Her eyes stayed fixed on her plate, ashamed. She didn’t want Adam to see how much guilt gnawed at her for ignoring her family, all for a man who barely noticed her sacrifices.

Adam grunted softly, his expression unreadable. “Last night, I sent you home with Sebastian,” he said, casually cutting into his steak. Emily stiffened, bracing herself for what was coming next.

Suddenly, as if a sharp thought struck him, Adam stabbed his fork into the steak with a loud clatter. His voice hardened with warning as his eyes met hers.

“Don’t you dare think he’s some chivalrous good guy!” His eyes locked onto hers, narrow and fierce. “I let you go with him last night because I had no choice. But that bastard has stolen more deals from me than I can count. He smiles, looks charming—but don’t fool yourself. He’s not human. He’s a devil. Don’t fall for him! Do you understand?”

Adam’s gaze pierced her like a cold warning.

Emily paused mid-bite, the spoon hovering near her mouth, her cheeks flushed as she mumbled quietly, “He’s not that bad.”

Adam leaned forward across the table, his eyes narrowing suspiciously. “Why are you speaking up for someone else instead of listening to your brother?”

Emily’s face instantly burned red. Inside, her thoughts raced: ‘Because he’s my husband now! Ihaveto support him.’

“You’ve been badmouthing him for years. Everyone in the city knows you’re just jealous, but you don’t really mean the harsh things you say. Don’t worry—” she gave him a coaxing smile, “I love you the most. You’re the most important person to me. No other man even comes close.”

Her grin widened, and Adam’s face softened with pride.

But then a cold voice sliced through the warmth from behind her chair.

“Is that so?”

Emily’s heart jumped into her throat. She whipped her head around, eyes wide, and froze. Sebastian stood there, towering over her, his gaze locked onto her with fierce, possessive jealousy without blinking.

Adam stood abruptly, chair scraping the floor. “What are you doing here? How come I keep bumping into you even after your office is over? Isn’t it a little too much of a coincidence that you’re everywhere around me lately?”

Sebastian finally tore his gaze away from Emily and fixed Adam with a slow, calculating look. “What coincidence are you talking about? Did I hear you say I’m like a devil?” He raised a brow, eyes sharp and threatening, lips curling into a faint, dangerous smile.

Emily quickly jumped in, forcing a light laugh to ease the growing tension. “What are you both doing? You’re friends, right? Sit together, have dinner. Why focus on every little word?” Her words tumbled out fast, almost too eager to smooth things over.

Sebastian’s eyes glinted, as if he’d been waiting for her to say exactly that. The dangerous edge in his gaze sharpened further, but he smiled at her. He took a step closer to the empty chair beside her. “Since you invited me, I’ll join you.”

He reached over, gently patting her shoulder, silently asking her to scoot over so he could sit next to her.

But Adam was already on his feet, grabbing Sebastian’s shoulder with a hard grip. “Why are you trying to sit next to my sister? Getback here.” His voice snapped with possessiveness as he yanked Sebastian away, seating him firmly in the chair next to his own.

Sebastian’s face flickered with frustration as he pulled away from Emily and slid into the chair between Adam and her.

Though sitting, Sebastian didn’t take his eyes off Emily. His arms folded over his chest, and his stare bore into her, intense and possessive, though the harshness softened just a touch.

The table was laden with food, so Emily decided to break the silence, her voice cautious. “What would you like to eat?”

Sebastian’s calm reply came instantly.

“Whatever you want, I’ll have that.”
