“I heard rumors,” Leon said carefully, “that Mrs. Graves was in a small car accident.”

Sebastian’s entire body went rigid, his head snapping toward Leon.

“She was in a fuckingcar accident?” His brows rose, voice dropping to a chillingly quiet tone. “Why the hell am I finding out about this now?”

Leon straightened, tense. “Mr. Graves… you ordered me four years ago not to inform you about her daily life.”

Sebastian’s expression darkened.

Back then, after years of watching Emily with Lucas, jealousy had eaten away at him until darker thoughts began to take root. He’d wanted her for himself, but not at the cost of stealing her happiness, so he’d given Leon strict instructions—only report something if it was truly important.

The last he’d heard was that Emily had been fired from Lucas’s company for accusing Amelia. He’d already planned to offer her a job at his own firm when they next met—but that meeting had turned into their first night together.

“Don’t you think a car accident is a big enough fucking thing to tell me about?” Sebastian growled, his temper rising by the second. “Do I need to fire you to get your head working again?”

“Mr. Graves!” Leon blurted, his voice caught between offense and panic. He rushed to explain, “The doctor’s report at the time said it was only a minor accident—that Mrs. Graves hadn’t sustained any serious injuries.”

“And?” Sebastian’s voice dropped into something deathly quiet. He already sensed there was more Leon hadn’t said.

Leon exhaled, lowering his voice. “I recently got the full reports. They were in the possession of Mr. Cantrell’s friend, Taylor Scott. And… it wasn’t just minor.”

Sebastian’s eyes took on a dangerous glint.

Chapter 17 Don’t Run

“She sustained head trauma. Deep wounds. She was treated and discharged after a few days, but…” Leon’s voice trailed, his brows furrowing. “After that, her behavior toward Mr. Cantrell changed drastically. She stopped trying to be close to him—no affection at events, no dates. And then… the sudden breakup.”

Leon’s brows furrowed. “That’s why I think it wasn’t just the engagement announcement. Something else happened. Something we still don’t know.”

Sebastian’s body burned with rage, every muscle tense. His voice was low, controlled, and lethal.

“Get me every damn report from that hospital. Footage, files—everything. I want to see it with my own eyes.”

“Yes, Mr. Graves,” Leon nodded.

His gaze shifted toward Emily, who had wandered deeper into the maze, her eyes wide in wonder. The genuine happiness lighting her face was something he hadn’t seen in a long time.

With a small smile, he murmured to Sebastian, “Mr. Graves, even if it’s a little late, you have all her attention now. And you married her the moment she broke up with Mr. Cantrell. I don’t think anyone’s ever married a woman faster than you did.”

A spark lit Sebastian’s eyes. “I waited so many years for her. How could I waste even one more day when I finally had the chance?”

His voice softened as he added, “I won’t let her slip away again.”

Then, he turned and strode after Emily before she could disappear from his sight. “Baby, wait for me!”

She turned just in time for him to wrap his arms around her waist and lift her off the ground. She laughed, breathless.

“Didn’t this place shut down a few months ago?” she asked, smiling. “I loved this place so much! I can’t believe you brought me here.”

Her joy lit up her entire face, and the sight made his chest tighten in a way he couldn’t hide.

He leaned down, brushing his lips over hers in a quick, warm kiss that made her shiver, before taking her hand to guide her forward.

But Emily wasn’t done playing. With a mischievous grin, she wiggled her fingers free and darted into the maze, laughter bubbling from her lips.

“Emily, don’t run!” he called after her, a low growl of frustration and amusement mingling in his voice as he started chasing her, quickening his stride to catch up.

“This is a maze!” she shouted back over her shoulder, winking. “You have to find me!”
