His eyes returned to Emily, the coldness gone, replaced by a deep, unguarded affection that seemed to shut the rest of the world out.
Emily smiled at his words, her heart fluttering in her chest.
Amelia began to panic. Her face went pale with surprise when she saw how fiercely Sebastian was defending Emily. She tried to think of a comeback, but nothing came to her. Finally, she let out, “Mr. Graves… you’re going to regret this! Emily has such a bad reputation in our circle. You may not know because you’ve just gotten involved in the jewellery industry, but you wouldn’t want someone like her—someone so… notorious—to launch your luxury project.”
Before she could finish, Sebastian cut her off, his voice calm but lethal. “You’re the one who leaked that video of Harold, Emily and Lucas. You made it go viral to hurt Emily, didn’t you?”
Amelia stammered, opening her mouth to protest, but Sebastian’s gaze pinned her in place. “You should be thinking about how to protect yourself from a lawsuit, Ms. Jones, rather than insulting Emily.”
Amelia’s eyes darted between Sebastian and Emily. She had come to Jacob’s company full of confidence, convinced that by pointing out Emily’s “shortcomings” and scandals, they would hand her the project without question.
But now, staring at them, she felt her confidence crumble. Why was Sebastian Graves protecting Emily so fiercely? Her heart raced with a thought she couldn’t shake: ‘Could it be that Emily and Sebastian were already… having an affair?’
Watching her plan unravel, Amelia’s teeth clenched in frustration. Before she could lose control, she spun on her heels and stormed off, leaving them in silence.
“Let’s go inside,” Jacob said, breaking the tension. “It’s not good to linger here and dwell on these things.” He started walking back into the building, Emily and Sebastian following.
Once inside, Emily led the way to her office, and Sebastian followed closely. The moment the door shut behind them, he grabbed her hand, pulling her close, his arm wrapping around her waist. Emily looked up at him, meeting his intense gaze, her voice soft and sincere.
“Thank you for helping me today.”
Sebastian’s eyes stayed locked on hers, intense and burning as he leaned closer. “This is your way of thanking me?” he asked, voice husky and warm.
Emily’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean? How do you want me to… thank you?”
Sebastian lifted his hand to his mouth, tapping his lips with a finger.
Emily held her breath, nervous. The office was all glass; anyone could see them if they came by. She turned her eyes back to him and said firmly, “Not here. Not in my office.”
But he was already leaning in.
Emily caught him off guard, sliding her hands up to cup his face and pressing her lips to his in a quick kiss before pulling back. “Not here,” she whispered.
Sebastian’s eyes darkened, shadows of hunger flickering across his gaze. Without warning, his hands gripped the back of her head, tugging her forward as his lips crashed onto hers.
His mouth moved over hers with force and precision, teeth grazing her bottom lip before retreating, tongue sliding againsthers in deep, relentless strokes. Her breath hitched, pulse pounding, but he didn’t ease up.
One hand snaked around her waist, pressing her back against the wall. His lips trailed down her jawline, nipping at the tender skin, brushing over her throat in heated, teasing patterns that made her shiver uncontrollably. His mouth lingered at the hollow of her neck, licking until every nerve in her body felt electric.
A sudden knock on the glass door shattered the moment. Emily jerked back immediately, heart hammering.
“Miss Crawford? Mr. Nox has asked you to come to his office,” a voice called from outside, snapping them both to reality.
Sebastian, impatient, went for her neck again, his hands on her chest, flicking her nipple.
Emily placed her hands on Sebastian’s shoulders, holding him back. “Not here,” she scolded lightly, covering herself up again, though her cheeks were flushed. “I told you—this is the office,”
Sebastian frowned, his expression almost devastated. “I’m your husband. Can’t I kiss my wife whenever I want?”
Emily’s heart softened at his tone. She quickly tried to calm him. “No… it’s not that. You can. It’s just… I’m worried someone will see us—and it will spread. It could ruin your projects because of me.”
Sebastian lifted a hand to caress her face, fingers tracing gently along her jawline. His eyes studied hers. Leaning closer, his lips almost brushed hers as he murmured, “Are you worried about my company’s reputation… or are you worried about others knowing about us?”
“Of course, I’m worried about your reputation!” Emily said quickly, trying to reassure him. “I’m not trying to hide you as my husband, Sebastian.”
Sebastian nodded slowly, his eyes still penetrating hers. His voice was calm, but laced with seriousness and a hint of coldness. “Remember, you only asked me to wait for only a little while before making our relationship public. The time is about to be up, baby.”
Emily felt shivers run down her spine. Even his voice made it clear he wouldn’t compromise or wait when it came to announcing their relationship.
