Okay. Sam Stone has officially become the most darling human being I’ve ever met. When I glance up at him, he looks like he can’t believe he just texted me. I don’t think he’s intimidated by me, though. More like I’m pushing him out of his comfort zone. I very much like the idea of keeping in contact with this lovely.

Loren stands up. “Are we done here?”

“Yes. I understand what I need to do.” I shake Terrill’s hand. Then I shake Sam’s, holding it just a beat too long because I like the way it feels in mine.

We leave, but I find myself wanting to come back.

CHAPTER4

Sam

It’s been hours since I left work, but I’m still not over meeting Julian Hill. My body shivers as I remember the feel of his long, slim body under mine. That rich voice. That bulge.

But I’m feeling supremely guilty I haven’t told my best friend I met her crush. If I wait much longer, she’ll disown me.

I grab my phone.

Sam: I need to tell you about the celebrity I met today at work. Unlike the last one, it’s someone you’d want to meet.

The last celebrity I met was a singer who was fresh out of rehab and got a starlet pregnant while in the process of divorcing his wife.

Emily: Who? Tell meeeeeee

Sam: JH

I brace myself. My phone lights up with a call. I answer it but hold the phone away from my ear, expecting an earsplitting shriek.

She surprises me. There’s silence. Complete and utter silence.

“Hello?” I try.

More silence.

I look around for a weapon, feeling the need to defend myself even though she’s not in the room. Like I’d actually go after her with a weapon.

“Em?” I try again.

“Sam Stone,” she says in this steely, quiet voice, “are you telling me that you met, in person, in the flesh, in real life, no kidding, Julian Hill?”

“Um, yes.” I gulp.

“Ohmygodohmygod,” she breathes. “Did you touch him?”

My cheeks heat. “Actually…”

“Did you shake his hand?”

“First I shook his dick.”

Now I get the shriek I was expecting. “You didwhat?”

“I was a fumbling dipshit and tripped and spilled water on him. Then I tried to clean it up and ended up stroking him through his pants. It was”—delicious—“embarrassing.”

Emily bursts out laughing. “I am so fucking jealous of you I might turn myself inside out. Do you know how manymillionsof people want to do what you just did?”

“It was a complete accident. I’m lucky I didn’t get fired. Or reprimanded. Jules acted nice about it, though, so my boss didn’t say anything afterward.”

“You need to tell me every single thing.”
