Letting out a big sigh, he starts typing. “Okay, I’m telling her that one, before I decide if I want to go, I want to talk with her in person, and two, I’ll only consider going to the ceremony if I can bring my husband. That should shut her up.” Cam looks at his phone, dry amusement on his face. “Judging by the bouncing dots, it’s not shutting her up. Yep. Nope.” He holds out his phone for me to read.
Leah
HUSBAND?
WTF CAMDEN?
He opens his arms and pulls me in so I’m sitting in his lap, then lets me watch while he types.
Camden
I got married to a guy, yeah.
Leah
Okay, that’s random
Camden
Not when it’s the right guy
Cam nuzzles his nose into my neck and then follows it up with a kiss. I’m really not sure how I got this guy, but god, I want to keep him. He keeps typing.
Camden
Anyway, thank you for the invite, but I want to talk to you first.
After, if you still want me to come, it’ll be the two of us.
Leah
Sure, he can come. Okay. Cool. This is different. Where do you want to meet?
Camden
Southwinds Coffee in Sherman Oaks, Saturday at 10?
Leah
Okay, see you then
He looks up at me. “Thanks for the push. I think this has bothered me for a year now.”
I smile. “Sure.”
And he kisses me again.
CHAPTER17
Camden
Saturday morning, I walk into the coffee shop on my crutches and look around for Leah. She’s easy to spot, sitting by herself with a cup of hot tea in front of her. Her dark brown hair is in a sleek ponytail, and she’s in simple jeans and a loose blouse, with sparkly sandals. All I can think is that she doesn’t look anywhere near as enticing as my husband.
I suppose I can get this over with.
After I give her a chin-up nod of acknowledgment, I order at the counter and get my own coffee. Then I go over to her table. “Hey,” I say, as I take the seat across from her.
“Hi,” Leah says. She looks down at her hands, then squares her shoulders and stares me in the eye.
