“What?” Isamu asked, visibly upset.

“I still have to find out.”

Isamu stared, it was obvious he was not sure what to add. He straightened his posture and stood there for a while. “I’m going back to my post. Call me if anything…” he trailed off and lowered his head.

Lennart nodded. “Worry not.”

As the door closed after him Lennart squeezed the ball tighter.Ryosuke, are you the one who is responsible for her death? Even when you deny it, I saw in your eyes you’re hiding some-thing.

Lennart looked around the room and released a heavy sigh.

Could someone like you be a heartless killer?he asked himself, but he knew the answer. He had dealt with many criminals, and many did not have the typical bad guy look.

If I prove that you’re guilty…Lennart didn’t even want to think about the outcome. He ran his hand through his hair. What should I do then? Damn, I wish you’re innocent, just as you claim.

Lennart swallowed thickly and looked at the ball.Ryosuke, I would hate it if I had to hurt you in any way.

?

Ryosuke walked as fast as he could. He refrained from running, since he had already behaved suspicious enough. Hebit his lower lip, his breathing ragged and he couldn’t wait to be back in his private room.

He hated that Ayame had to see him in such a state. When he opened the door, the question followed, “How was it?” But Ryosuke ignored her. Instead of answering, he locked himself in the bathroom.

His legs gave way as soon as he closed the door. He collapsed on the floor sobbing uncontrollably. Ryosuke couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt this way: hopeless, empty, disappointed.

A knock on the door startled him. “Ryosuke, what happened?”

“Nothing. Leave me alone.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes!”

It was hard to talk through his sobs, but it was necessary to send the message across. Ryosuke needed time alone, he didn’t want to talk to anyone.

This is Ayame’s fault. If she hadn’t spilled wine on Scarlett’s dress none of this would have happened. Now I’ll be accused of murder!

He squeezed his eyes shut, but the action only made him cry harder.

My life will end here if that happens.

But what bothered him the most? Ryosuke’s lungs withered with sobs, and Lennart’s face popped into his mind.

“Stop it. Just stop it! Leave me alone. Please.”

Ryosuke hated that it was Lennart of all people who interrogated him and worked on the case which might eventually lead to his demise.

Why him? Why?

A small voice buried deep inside him whispered, but Ryosuke didn’t like the answers. He shut his eyes tight and clenched his fists. “No. Shut up!”

?

Lennart returned to his work room to go back through all Scarlett’s interactions in the bunker. Since Ryosuke was acting rather suspicious, Lennart hoped to find a connection between the two, other than their time at the party.

He remembered again how Ryosuke had watched him last night. This was not the usual behavior of a criminal about to commit a crime. If he planned it.Although Lennart thought that Ryosuke had no prior knowledge that he was a detective, there was still a possibility that Ryosuke had learned this detail from his father.

Even when Lennart did everything in his power to only let people with clean criminal records into their bunker, heknew there was a possibility that at least one person with uncontrollable urges could slip in.
