Possession? Yeah.
Obsession? Definitely!
And something else I’m not ready to label just yet.
Pinky smirks at me over Memphis’s head as she leads my girl away. I watch my girl’s ass as she ascends the stairs. I hate it when she leaves, but I love to watch her go.
I’m so fucked.
“Church!” The sound of Chief’s voice booming from down the hall pulls my attention away from the stairs.
Shit. I glance at my plate, still half full with food, then grab my fork and shovel a few more bites of steak and eggs into my mouth, chasing it down with a gulp of coffee before sliding off my stool.
The chapel door is already open when I reach it. Most of the guys are already seated around the redwood table that dominates the room.
Chief stands at the head of the table, his dark eyes taking in each of us as we settle in. Once everyone’s seated, he raps his knuckles on the table.
“Let’s get started,” he says. “First order of business. We’ve got a problem at Heaven’s Door.”
The room grows quiet at the mention of a problem.
“Reign noticed some discrepancies in the books,” Chief continues, motioning for Reign to take over.
Reign stands, his expression hard. “Someone’s skimming from the club.” He says, telling everyone what he told me last night. Then he nods toward Zero.
Our tech man pushes his glasses up his nose, looking uncomfortable as always when all eyes turn to him. “This wasn’t an inside job at the club. Whoever did this hacked into our accounts. They took almost three grand last week.”
“And they’re not even trying to hide it,” Reign adds, his eyes narrowed. “It’s like they want us to know they’re stealing from us.”
Morpheus leans forward, arms crossed in front of him on the table. “Why would someone be that fucking stupid?”
“Because they’re fucking stupid?” I wonder out loud.
“Or they don’t have anything to lose,” Dread chimes in.
“Maybe stealing from us isn’t about the money at all,” Rage suggests. “Maybe it’s about showing they can get to us. Don’t forget about all the shit that went down with Spike and the Talons.”
Chief nods slowly. “That’s what I’m thinking too.”
“The Russians?” Dread asks, voicing what we’re all now thinking.
“Could be,” Chief shrugs. “We fucked up their operation pretty bad when we took down the Talons. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re looking to recoup their money somehow.”
Reign shakes his head. “We can’t exactly go to the cops. What would we say?‘We killed the men they hired to kidnap women, then burned down their clubhouse.’”
“I’ll keep digging,” Zero promises. “If there’s a digital footprint, I’ll find it.”
“Good,” Chief says, taking a sip from his coffee. “In the meantime, let’s keep a close eye on all of our accounts.”
Reign and Zero nod their agreement.
My thoughts drift to Memphis upstairs, getting ready to go shopping. If this is the Russians making moves against the club, that puts her directly in the crosshairs.
I’ll die before I let anything else happen to her.
“Killer,” Chief’s voice pulls me back. When I look over, I see the concern on his face. “You with us, bro?”
I nod sharply. “Yeah.”
