We split up, moving stealthily through the shadows to our positions. We can’t fuck this up.

Memphis is on that plane. I can feel it. And nothing short of death itself is going to stop me from getting her back.

“What are they waiting for?—”

A loud explosion cuts me off as it rocks the eastern edge of the tarmac. Should have known Reign’s diversion would be big. When Nikolai’s men turn and run toward it with their weapons drawn, we make our move.

“Now,” Chief barks, and we break cover, sprinting for the plane.

Thanks to the roar of the jet’s engine, the first guard doesn’t hear us coming. Rushing up behind him, I tap him on the shoulder. When he spins around, his eyes widen and he opens his mouth to shout for the others, but it’s too late. I rear my fist back andjab him in the throat. He grabs at his crushed trachea, desperate for air as I lower him to the ground. It’s no use. His windpipe is crushed.

Dread and Chief rush their targets, opting for a quicker kill by twisting their necks.

Leaving my brothers to handle the fight, I board the plane and freeze in my tracks. At the far end of the plane sits a man in an expensive suit. He watches me calmly with a glass of amber liquid in his hand.Nikolai Sidorov.

My nostrils flare. I’m going to snatch the life right out of this motherfucker.

I quickly scan the rest of the cabin first. And there, bound and gagged on the bench seat next to him, is my woman. Her eyes are wide with fear.

Relief floods through me that she’s here, but I push that down. The only thing that matters is getting Memphis out of here.

“Let her go,” I growl, pointing my gun at Nikolai’s heart.

He smiles, setting his glass down on the polished wood table beside him. “Ah, Mr. Tuiasosopo. I had a feeling you might join us.”

He watches me closely, eyes narrowing when he doesn’t get a reaction out of calling me by my government name. I’m not surprised he knows who I am. I’d be disappointed if he didn’t.

“I won’t ask again.”

Nikolai sighs, as if I’m nothing more than an annoying fly. “I’m afraid I can’t do that. The girl was promised to me. I’m simply collecting what’s mine.”

I step closer, my gun never wavering. “That’s where you’re wrong, motherfucker. She belongs to me.”

“Oh?” Nikolai raises an eyebrow, his composure slipping. “Her father and I had a deal.”

“Her father is a piece of shit who doesn’t deserve to live,” I spit. “And neither do you.”

I shift my gaze to Memphis, whose eyes are fixed on me, tears streaming down her face.

“It’s almost over, baby.”

“Yeah. It is.”

My eyes shift to Nikolai as he’s pulling his pistol from inside his suit jacket. Before I have time to react, he aims and pulls the trigger.

BANG.

I look down in shock as blood expands over the fabric of my white shirt.

That motherfucker shot me.

Moving on autopilot, I raise my arm and pull the trigger, returning the favor. The slug sails through Nikolai’s head, spraying the wall behind him in blood.

Hot and fast, the pain starts to register, and so does the relief. Memphis is safe now. That fucker is dead.

Looking down at my chest again, my knees buckle, and I drop to the floor. My ears are ringing and I vaguely hear the sound of Memphis screaming behind her gage, but it sounds far away. Iblink, trying so hard to keep my eyes on her, but I can’t. My eyes feel like they’re weighed down with sandbags.

I blink again, battling to stay conscious, but it’s a losing battle. “I just gotta rest for a minute, Pet. Just for a minute.”
