“We need to take that witch out before the first battle,” I said.
Kylo sighed. “And we will. But tonight, we both need time off. We’ve been going nonstop for weeks, and we might not have this luxury for a while.” He kissed my temple. “Huge progress was made today because ofyou.”
“It’s a small first step,” I said with a shrug.
“Stop downplaying your beautiful mind and magick or I’ll take you into one of these rooms and turn that perfect ass red.”
I smirked. “And we’re back.”

KYLO
“What if we’re spotted?”
My lips curved. “Thrilling, isn’t it?”
Evie’s wide gray eyes narrowed.
We walked down a cobblestone street that had once been lively and filled with energetic university students, longtime residents, and merchants mingling and dipping in and out of shops and restaurants.
Now, only a handful of mortals milled about. A heaviness hung in the air, and several establishments were boarded up completely.
“I’m glamoured as a human, and you made your hair dark. Not every born will instantly know who you are, baby. The only person who might is Lord Aster, and if we see him, I willnotbe able to hold back a second time.”
“Me neither,” she growled.
“We will not hide, angel. No one is going to stop me from spoiling you the way you have always deserved to be spoiled.”
At this, my cautious good girl stopped her paranoid scans of our surroundings. Her cheeks flushed my favorite shade of pink.
I was so in love with her it was absurd.
She made a soft noise of surprise when I grabbed her and captured her lips with mine in the middle of the street. I stole her breath the way she stole my sanity. It didn’t seem nearly a fair enough trade.
I tugged at her bottom lip with my fangs before begrudgingly releasing her. My smile was unavoidable as I watched her chest rise and fall under her light blue corset. Her pupils were dilated, yearning.
“I miss your pretty blonde hair,” I sighed, twirling a deceptively dark strand around my finger.
Evie laughed. “It hasn’t even been thirty minutes.”
I traced her jugular with my thumb. “Fuck. I’m getting cute aggression again.”
She rolled her eyes.
I gripped her throat. “You’re the one who allowed me to become addicted to you. Encouraged it, even.”
She shuddered, her arousal palpable as her breathing slowed. I loved that every time I had my hand around her throat, Evie merely relaxed.
“Good girl.”
I released her, and she looked as bummed about it as I was. I pulled her into one of my favorite clothing shops, where I’d bought her countless gifts over the summer.
The owner, a short man with warm brown skin and a finely sculpted black mustache, lit up the moment he saw us.
“Oh my gods. Is thisher?” He clapped his hands together in delight.
Evie stilled, and I carefully guided her forward with a hand on her lower back.
