“Why? Because you couldn’t afford the buy-in for my Giacomina? Fuckingstronzo. You’re going to regret that you ever came here.”

A breath is lodged in my throat. Buy-in? What the hell is he talking about? I glance at Vito, his lips are pressed in a hard line, but his body betrays him. He knows what they’re talking about.

My father fires a shot off, but it goes wide and hits the wall. Victor jumps on him, wrestling the gun from his hand before a few blows meet my father’s face.

He cries out, my stomach doing a flip and the anger courses through me. I can’t wait to wrap my hands around Victor’s throat so I can watch the life get sucked out of him. I may be a pretty face, but I’m also a fucked up bitch when I need to be. No one hurts my family and lives.

Victor pulls out a needle and plunges it into Dad’s neck. He lets out a scream before he falls to the floor unconscious.

“We need to get him out of here before his boys find out what we did,” Sal says.

“Grab his legs and I’ll grab his arms. If we happen to let go a few steps from the bottom…” Victor says, shrugging.

They both laugh and walk out of the door as if they pulled off the perfect mission. Those fuckers have no idea who they’re messing with, and when this is over I’m going to enjoy a glass of wine, toasting to their deaths.

The screen goes black and Vito puts the laptop down. His face is a pile of emotions, but I couldn’t care less.

“What did he offer you in exchange?” I whisper. My hands bunched in the blankets staring him down.

“A cut in the Vegas casinos. I’d have the majority out there. It was a bet I couldn’t pass up.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I yell. “I was bought like a fucking cow so you could take the easy way out and gain some power in that fucking shit hole you call a city?”

“It wasn’t a guarantee,” he says, blowing out a breath. “We had to bid. The top five bids were allowed to be put into your pile for consideration. It would always be your choice in the end”

My head explodes. Brain and guts all over, because if this is real, then my world and everything I understood about my father has turned upside down. How could he do this to me?

I walk to the door and throw it open. “Ciro and Dante, get in here now!”

The jerkoffs turn to me, matching scared expressions. A part of me eats it up, the rabbit caught by a cougar look, but the other part wants to take out my SIG and fucking shoot them in the balls.

Dante clicks the door closed and all three men wait for me to speak. I run my hands through my hair, looking to the ceiling and asking the Lord for guidance because I’ve never been this angry before, and my father is in the hands of the enemy.

“How much? Tell me, each of you, how much?”

Ciro is confused, but Dante gets it right away. “You weren’t supposed to find out. How did you?”

“It was on the tape. Nothing I could do,” Vito says, sitting up straighter as if he’s the hero in this story.

“HOW. FUCKING. MUCH?”

“Three mill,” Ciro says, hands folded over his chest.

“Three point five,” Vito says.

“Two, nine,” Dante murmurs, turning around to face the window, too embarrassed to speak to me.

“Wow...I can’t believe this is real life, right now. You fucks didn’t think I’d find out? This would have been a secret you kept from me, even after I chose one of you? Get out. I don’t want to see you until it’s time to leave. In fact, fuck this, I’m leaving.”

I grab my bag from the chair and march out of the bedroom, straight for the door. Ciro tries to stop me with a hand on my arm, but I waste no time punching him in the throat.

He releases me and chokes out a cough, falling to his knees at my feet. “Anyone else want to try to stop me?”

No one says anything, but I can hear Vito as the door slams. “You shouldn’t have done that. Remember last time.”

I finda comfortable seat at the bar, looking out into the crowd. Ana and I used to drive down here all the time to people-watch. It’s a game we’ve played since we were teens, making up stories about people from afar. I could really use her right now.
