“Is everything okay?” Mary asks, holding out the first selection she’s chosen.
“I’m fine, sorry I spaced out. This is beautiful,” I say, stroking the satin and lace in front of me. It has a corset style bodice and a mermaid skirt. It’s a little scandalous and something I would never pick for myself, but I’m willing to try it on.
Mary and Sara help me step in the dress and tie it up in the back. It’s a traditional corset and there are gorgeous laces in the back. The mermaid skirt makes my butt look just right, and the flare at my knees gives it a whimsical appearance. I’m in love with it.
“Wow, you look like a knockout,” Sara says.
I turn this way and that glancing at all angles in the mirror. “You really think so?”
“It’s perfect for you,” Mary says, smiling before opening the door and leading me out back to the showroom.
There is a small dias set up in front of the couches the girls are sitting on. A three way mirror and spot lights shine down on it. I step up and try not to seem as embarrassed as I suddenly am. Emotions are running high and when I see my mother’s face in the mirror I know this is the one.
“Oh, Giacomina. It’sbellissima. You’re a princess,” my mother says, tears falling down her face. My grandmother hands her a tissue and the rest of the girls nod in agreement.
Ana steps up and hands me a veil which Nikki takes and places on my head in a mock updo. The whole picture is set and as I gaze at myself in the mirror something inside of me breaks. All that we’ve been through in this last month is crashing in on me. All the feelings I wasn’t supposed to have for the guys hit me and I try not to let out the sob that wants to find me. Marcello is such an important part of my life now, for me to lose him would be horrible.
“It’s the dress,” Ana says, stepping up to the dias and throwing an arm around my side. She leans in and I hug her back, the two of us staring at each other through the mirror.
“Thank you, for always being there for me. I’m the person I am because of you.”
“I don’t know about that, since you’re the bad influence, but I love you too.”
“Is it a yes?” Mary asks, hands clasped in front of her, eyes wide.
“It’s a yes,” I say, and all the girls cheer. I didn’t think the first dress I’d try on would be the one, but I can’t imagine getting married in anything else.
Chapter Sixteen
Dante
I didn’t think I’d feel this nervous getting married, but my brain is finally catching up to my dick and I’m on edge. Tonight is the bachelor party that Ciro is throwing and I don’t have a doubt in my head that it’s going to be one to remember.
Glancing in the mirror, I straighten out my shirt and slacks, making sure everything is in place. In my home I wear sweatpants and t-shirts, but in public I have to be dressed. Playing the part of The Don’s son-in-law.
A knock sounds on the door and I see Ciro through the glass panes. Unlike the rest of the guys, I live in Gravesend. Bay Ridge is too crowded for me and I’m not a fan of Manhattan even though my office is located in Midtown.
I like the quiet of this neighborhood and the ability to move around without anyone knowing who I am. I’m sure that Jack will appreciate being removed from all the drama. If she even wants to live here. We haven’t discussed it.
“You ready, stronzo?” Ciro asks, flipping car keys in his hands. He’s a fucking dick, but in trouble he’d be the best one to protect Jack.
“Where’s Marcello?” I ask, closing the door behind me and slipping into his Porsche.
“He’s gonna meet us there. Something about not wanting to bring too much attention to himself. If you ask me, the fucker is having cold-feet about the whole thing.”
“Seriously? It’s not like he’s the one getting married,” I reply, snapping on my seat belt and adjusting my position. This car is too fucking small for my larger frame.
“Yeah, I think he has feelings for our girl.”
Our girl. Something I never thought I’d hear come out of Ciro’s mouth, but it’s true. Jack is ours now and forever.
“We all have feelings. I wonder what his hang up is then. I know we all are risking something, but we’re gaining much more. I wouldn’t do this for any other girl. Jack is fucking amazing.”
He taps his fingers on the steering wheel, deep in thought. This relationship isn’t traditional, but it makes us unstoppable and the one thing that we all have in common is power. It goes before love or money. The power to cripple empires and the ability to surge to the top is everything I’ve ever wanted.
“He’s in love. I know it. The fucker looks at her differently than we do. Something is there and we need to find out what. Because in order for this shit to work, we need to be on the same page.”
“You’re right. We’ll talk to him tonight. Where are we going anyway?”
