She laughs sitting and I look at the food. It’s like one of Amos’ cooking show plates. I have to say, dinner with Seren turns out to be better than I could ever imagine. The food is as good as it looks and she tells me it’s from her mom’s private recipe books. Her mom was a chef. How cool is that? We talk about everything, but I find myself looking for shit to make her laugh.
My phone goes off with a Security alert making me groan. It’s been a whole three hours since I left the bar. “I have to get this. It’s Security.”
With a nod from her, I answer. “Yeah, Hade, what’s going on?”
“Falcon’s on his way. A truck just drove through the bar.”
Jesus. This day needs to be done. “Anyone hurt?”
“Minor except for the driver. Rex asked me to call you, but let you know he’s fine.”
Shit. “If Trask isn’t there, call him. Get Security on Seren before I leave. I’m on my way.”
“You got four before Falcon is there and her Security is already scheduled.”
“Thanks.” I turn and take our glasses to the sink where Seren is. “I need to get back to the bar, a truck just drove into it, Rex is fine. Hade says the only injuries are minor except for the driver.”
She looks relieved. “Go. Will I see you tomorrow?”
I love that confidence. “I can pick you up for a time we’re having after Church. It’s casual, jeans would be good. Seren, the threat here shouldn’t be taken lightly. Three people in this jurisdiction is a concern to more than just me. I’ll have you covered when I’m not around. It’s...”
Her hand squeezing mine stops me. “I got that right away. I’m not helpless, but I’m not stupid either. I’ll take any help with crazy men that I can get. Go and make sure your Brothers and Rex are good. I’ll be heading home after I store the food.”
I kiss her surprising both of us. Nothing in me wants to walk away right now, but I need to. “Thanks for being reasonable.” Bikes are pulling in. Shit. “I’ll pick you up at one tomorrow.” I kiss her again, lifting her as I walk to the front door. I do everything but weld my lips to hers wondering if Raid can deal with the bar. Taking her against the wall feels like an option here. I hear an Enforcer bike and it snaps my brain back into place. Fuck, I’m losing it.
When I put her down, away from walls, her smile relieves me. “Go already!” Her face is red and she’s breathing deep.
I go to the door with her hand in mine and a smile of my own.Walking out, I stop short. Of all the fucking people to put on her today, they have Sharp here. “She’s safe or you’re not,” I promise him.
He smiles and I swear I’m shooting him if he laughs. “Got it, Boss.”
“Seren, this is Sharp. Security to get you home.”
She nods but doesn’t step closer. “I’ll need ten minutes, Sharp.”
He stares at her but she ignores it. I hear the lock when she closes the door. Smart. Walking by the hyena, I remind him. “Snap out of it, Sharp. Remember, she’s safe, or you never will be.”
He nods swallowing hard.
Falcon throws me my lid and we ride out. My thoughts are on Seren but Jules is on my mind too. I’m glad I left now, but it won’t last. I need a clear head and feel I got it tonight but the memories are still too close. I smile, there’s always tomorrow.
