Chapter Five
Seren
My eyes open and I panic. Closing them I replay last night. Okay, this is good, but what time is it? I have a grand opening to get ready for. Coupons went out with ad flyers this weekend. New workers start with four that I had from before the old place closed. I got this. Too much overhead for one day, but it may be worth it and, if nothing else, the new workers will get more hands-on training with the new sandwich menu I added.
My phone hasn’t gone off so I’m okay for time. I set it for thirty minutes before I need to get up. Of course, it beeps now but it’s not the alarm. Moving quickly but softly, I reach for it but it’s not on my nightstand because this is not my room.
I roll off the bed going to where I left my pants and swipe it fast. “Shit.” This is not a good sign.
“What’s wrong?”
I look over, taking a second. Cort is leaning on his elbow watching me with the sun on his head making streaks of gold shine like it’s really gold. I shake my head trying to think of what I can do before I answer. “The delivery that was set for Wednesday is rescheduled for this morning or I don’t get one until next Wednesday. Since I haven’t opened, I have no room for a full delivery and there is no way I can wait for a week with the opening today.”
“You got a number?” He stands and I suck in a breath trying to be quiet about it. I left scratches on his back. I can’t say that’s ever happened before.
“Seren?”
“Yeah. I left marks on your shoulder and back. I missed the Badass, which is cool by the way, but I’m a little shocked by that.” I hand him my phone.
He laughs. “Glad I’m your first and so you know, I’m proud to be marked, even if you hit the ink.” The crazy Norse God is hitting buttons on my phone. “This is Cort Masters, I have an interest in FamilyPizzeria and Subs. You have a delivery scheduled for Wednesday?” He listens then asks, “Does this happen often?”
I shake my head no for him. I managed the pizza place and know it’s not right.
“So, you know today is the grand opening? That’s fucked up. This is what’s going to happen, I’ll have bikes surrounding your warehouse in thirty minutes. No truck will go in or out of the lot for the rest of today.” He listens again. “When you call the Sheriff, ask for Trask McCabe or Deputy Vera. They’re Brothers in my Club.” Another pause has me hoping my order is usable. “Just so we understand each other, if those trucks move, I’ll have my snipers shoot out every fucking tire on every fucking truck. You should be able to have them up and running for Seren to get her supplies on the day that she agreed to.” He listens and smiles. “Yes, that Cort Masters. Seren is standing here right now, I’ll hand her the phone.” He does and walks away like this is normal.
“This is Seren.” I watch his drool-worthy bootymeat bounce to the bathroom as the guy on the phone apologizes sounding like an ass kisser from TV. I just can’t think of who right now.
I cut the jerk off. “So, my order will be in on Wednesday and I won’t be expected to accept damaged or high temp goods?”
“Yes, will Mr. Masters hear that this was settled?” Ass kisser.
I laugh. “I’m getting ready to get in the shower with him. I’ll let him know.”
The guy doesn’t know what to say so I swipe him off. Jerk.
~*~*~
Cort brings me home to change and get my car. When I come out of the house he’s still here and on his phone. Raid nods to me looking pretty damn serious.
Nodding back, I move toward my car but Cort puts his arm around my waist holding me in place. “Get me four Prospects that have some kind of experience and set Security for presence seen.” He looks at me. “Yeah. Get Falcon to the supplier to make sure they won’t fuck with her again. I want our Brothers seen in town. This is fucking crazy for small-town shit. Brick thrower brought to me.” He swipes off his phone and looks at Raid without talking. When he looks at me, he’s got regret in his eyes. Damn! Last night was so good...I think.
“You have two that called out, actually they quit. Someone threw a brick through the hardware and the pizza joint’s windows. A glazier is at the pizza place now and cleanup has you set to open. Security took the call from the quitters. This all happened half an hour ago and one of Web’s albinos has the pussy tracked to his house. Matt Caron is our brick thrower.” He watches for a reaction.
How do I react? “I’m not surprised, but glad we at least have a name. Can the Sheriff pick him up?”
He laughs but it’s a scary laugh. “We will deal with it. Do you know Caron?”
I shrug. “I’d recognize him if that’s what you’re asking. He came into the store when my dad was alive. He’s older than me so we didn’t go to school together or have any common people connecting us.”
He shakes his head and looks at Raid again. I roll my eyes. Men. “I need to go. Do you need me to point him out?”
I get a soft smile. “No, Kram. I’ll follow you and make sure the pizzeria and store are safe.”
“Thank God. I thought you were regretting last night. I’m a lot to deal with, but really it’s not me, people are just crazy.”
He laughs and kisses my lips. “Nothing to regret from what I can remember.”
“That makes my day. So you know, you ruined me with what Ican’tremember. You’re stuck with me until I’m un-ruined, I remember or you keep me.”
