“Roger, Boss.” He takes position at the truck door.

Walking away I call Trask. “Can a pussy die by shooting himself with a laser?”

He laughs making me wait. “Gun in his name with only his fingerprints. No one else at the scene. Shooting himself in the eye by accident, no other laser burn. It could happen.”

“He wouldn’t get laser burn, say, in the center of his forehead? Like maybe connected to the eye from a lower angle.”

He’s fucking laughing again. “I didn’t realize this move would be so much fun or I would have done it sooner. I’ve got detectives filling out apps. Yeah, from the right angle I can see a burn flared out. Figuring the shock has his hand tightening and him holding the trigger down. Maybe the arm of the chair kept his hand in position.”

“Yeah. I got this. Thanks. And you get us ten, I’ll buy your bike of choice.” I’m picturing what kind of chair will work.

“Fucking nice, thanks, Boss.”

I swipe him off and call the manager of the gun shop for a gun and paperwork out of the city. He’ll have them here by lunch.

Rex comes out with Ant Irma and Patcher. “We’re headed to the hospital, Cortland.”

I kiss Ant Irma’s swollen cheek. “Call if you need me. Patcher, get her some help for home and a Prospect to help with the kids. Ant Irma, let them shop and help cook, you supervise.”

“You’re a good boy, Cort. Thank you.” Because she’s not arguing, I know she’s hurting.

Rex sees it too. “I’ll call you after she’s been X-rayed and we find out about Ajhil.”

“Thanks.”

Raid comes out smiling. “The nurse is all that’s left shopping. The four workers are filling their own carts and will be back at one when the new manager shows. Two Prospects are on the way and will lock up after the workers leave and open again at one.” Good.

“New manager is getting his cut for helping us out.” I let him know.

He nods. “I heard you when I turned my piece back on. I got him going to HR so it’s done right.”

I laugh. “So, I need a chair with arms and a setting for our pussy to shoot himself with a laser but it has to be around lunch.”

He laughs. “There’s a shed out back. Bet when he found out the wife sold to you, he called it quits.”

“Yeah. Get the wife on that and we’ll make it happen.”

“Why is he found?” It’s a valid question.

“Because Jimmy never will be. That’s two of the pussies gone. Dave being found is a warning to the rest.”

He considers it nodding. “I like it.”

“Me too. McCabe is getting us detectives filling out apps. I promised him a bike for ten.” I start walking to Security. “Call Banks for the wife while I get them to wait on Prospects.”

He nods. “Nice. Trask’ll work for that too. He’s been eyeing ours.”

I talk to Security and wait for Raid to finish with Banks. He comes over laughing. “Stock is dirt cheap. Fucking women are amazing.”

I can’t disagree. We ride to town so I can tell Seren about Ant Irma. I plan my next moves hoping for a calm Enforcer day. Setting up a crime scene isn’t new to me. Doing it between the gun making it here and workers showing for their shift is going to be tricky.

My girl tries to feed us. She’s happy with the news and tells me her Security is set for tonight. I knew it would be, but I’m glad she’s happy about it so I don’t say it. With a kiss and promise of lunch, we’re off to the hardware store.

I get a padlock, cleaning supplies and a small air compressor. I smile at the used rope wound in a box close to the front with a discount sign on it. I like this guy. He rings us up and thinks I’m kidding when I give him my card.

“You gotta replace the stock and it all washes.”

He nods and takes the card. Raid laughs.
