We pull dumbass Dave out of his truck and up to the shed, it’s actually a pretty nice storage unit. I get his hand on the padlock and key and slide the key on his ring. Raid hangs the open lock on the door and leaves the bolt cutter outside.
Dave won’t stop moving around so I grab him by the balls. “I can rip them off or you sit still.”
He sits still while I get him signing for the gun. Raid takes a copy for the gun shop pointing out. “He can’t have tears on his face, Brother.” He always worries over shit like that.
“Got it covered, wife says he came home distraught. Threatened her and she threw him out. He lost the store and her in one day. His shit is thrown all over the yard waiting for him to come get it.”
He nods. “You’re good at this shit.”
It was a job I had for a while there. We don’t talk about this shit so he wouldn’t know. “He gets his brand-new gun and tries out the laser,” I tell him while loading it.
“Bullets for effect?”
“Yeah. I need the alcohol.” Ripping the tape off his mouth has Dave yelling.“Grab him by the balls so I can get this done.” I laugh at the look but he does and Dave shuts up so I can clean the glue from the tape. I wipe the whole box down just in case. When I’m done, I get his hands all over the box and plastic bag.
Stepping back, I smile. I’ve got Raid still holding his junk and he won’t move until I tell him to. Since I’m running out of time, I move on. “Get behind him and hold his arms still. I need the angle.”
He does, looking relieved and I’m smiling again. Dave isn’t happy and starts crying again. I point my gun at him and he settles. “He’s right-handed. That one goes on the arm.”
Raid lets his right arm go and I move it as if to aim at his face while his elbow is on the arm of the chair. “Head down about two inches.”
Raid positions his head and I see the angle will work, but Dave’s shoulders are off. “Left arm not on the arm of the chair.” I move his feet so they’re spread apart as if he’s just sitting checking out his gun. “This will do. Get the air compressor.”
When Raid stands, I shoot. Fucking perfect. “Jesus, Cort!”
I shrug and hold the laser on him for a good twelve seconds. His eyeball pops and I release moving back. Fucking gross. Raid walks out. I hope he gets the compressor in here quick. I get the gun in Dave’s hand and squeeze the trigger pointing up to the ceiling to match the angle of where his head was, then move it in a jagged pattern. Letting his hand go, it falls to his lap with the gun still held. Perfect.
Checking for a pulse, I’m glad when there isn’t one and drop the alcohol in my lower pocket and shop towels in the next. “Raid!”
“Yeah, Boss.” He walks in with the compressor.
“Thanks, I wasn’t sure you remembered. I’m all set here. Get the cutters in the truck. I’ll be right out.”
Starting behind the chair, I aim air in straight lines covering everything that could have snagged on the back then the sides and front. I make sure Dave has nothing on his clothes, arms or hands. Since he wasn’t fighting and we’re in coveralls and hairnets, I think we’re good, but being thorough is better than good. Shooting air until I’m at the door, I close it and shoot the cement, then grass behind me until it runs out just before I get to the truck. That was a good amount of air. I look at the tank for the size so I’ll remember.
Hitting my mic on, I let Jinx know it’s showtime. “Now,Jinx.” Pulling the coveralls, gloves and hairnet off, I climb in.
“Roger, Boss. Prospects just getting back from lunch. Workers and manager due in seventeen.”
“Got it.”
Raid jumps in stowing the bag under the seat. “Lunch?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
As we pull down the dirt trail, two four-wheelers pass us dodging trees. Their tracks will cover the truck’s. Before the grass, they’re turning to follow us to the road, zig-zagging all the way. They stay to play, but I’m hungry so we leave the Brothers to play and go get lunch.

Since I’m crazy-busy, I’m glad when Falcon and Hade come in and sit with Cort and Raid. The Brothers are ordering everything. After feeding the town yesterday and the Brothers today, I need to up my order before tomorrow. We still have tonight to get through.
When I’m done with chicken for the chicken parm sandwiches, I check and see Cort is still talking. It looks serious so I call the supplier and almost double my order. I can’t believe that’s with no begging, but it is.
Leaving the office, I check with Sammy to see if she needs help. She waves me off so I execute a perfect about-face then freeze seeing Dana at the counter. My life is a series of oddities lately. This would be one of the weirdest damn things that has happened since I met Cort. I love him. What! When the hell did that happen? Shaking my head, I smile. World flipping upside down oddities - love. I can see the when.
