Chapter Twelve
Cort
Cowboy Jr. gets some looks from the Brothers but he ignores them. It reminds me of Seren and I smile watching as he tells one Prospect what to take pictures of and the other what he wants to do. The Prospect says a number so I figure they are coordinating pictures and the why. Since it bores the fuck out of me, I get up to leave.
“Do you want a new couch and table? I can get a match to the meeting room, just smaller.” Cowboy Jr. catches me before I can get out the door, but I don’t mind this one. The meeting room table is fucking Badass.
“Yeah.” Since he stopped me, I ask. “Can the bikes come here?”
The Prospect taking pictures laughs. “Falcon had a truck go get them, Boss.”
That’s fast. My phone goes off with a Security alert.
“What’s going on, Hade?”
“Carlson, the whiny pussy that you turned down is who squashed the investigation and paid to have the reports doctored. Jordan is getting more but McCabe has the proof for here.”
“I’m gearing up. I’ll be right down. Get two full teams in with Security and cleanup.” I get a roger and swipe off while moving to the safe room. I hit the button and pull my clothes off then gear on. The Prospects and Jr. are talking like I’m not here. When I come out holstering my gun Jr. steps back.
“You’re police?” The nervous look stops me. Why is he nervous?
“Around here we are. Don’t clutter my space and leave my desk alone.” Walking out I replay the look and call Web going down the stairs. “Cowboys from the furniture store. Get background on them.”
“Roger, Boss.” I hear him yell for Anton but swipe him off before he says anything else.
Raid is readied when I walk into Ops. Beacon and McCabe are talking to Jordan on a computer on the side. Hade is behind them watching. This is the app thing Web did. I like that they aren’t up on a screen with this.
“Hade?”
“Boss. This is fucked up. Jordan had him as a client a few years ago. He tried to stiff them with three months and some event shit and Jordan sent Enforcers to collect. They took all kinds of shit including a Ducati RR. You’ll never guess who bought it?” That was what, six… seven years ago? They sold stock from their dad and bought the print shop chain and the bike. Said it was for making VP, but I had been VP for a while. It was before Crow died. Fuck.
“Get Security on Rex, he’s on high.” I sit not knowing what the fuck to feel here. The pussy was trying to get me close for a bike? My dad, Jules. Shit. “Byron?”
He shrugs. “They haven’t gotten that far with the paper trail, but it looks like it’s from the Sheriff. Jordan is hooked into Web’s albinos and they’re finding all kinds of shit. Deacon, Six-Guns, the Sheriff, even the deputy you and Brinks didn’t like.”
Jesus fuck. “I need Major and a location on Carlson.” Turning the seat, I wait for McCabe to finish. “Jordan, is Major aware?”
“Not of the tie to you. He knows what we had with Six-Guns and Deacon. He had a chopper scheduled here with Enforcers for Ops tomorrow. We were calling you to plan it and hoped to get help from there. The objective was striking Six-Guns. He wanted more intel before we called you. That needs to change and he doesn’t have that.Web sent me the tie to you and his crew has been adding shit at least every five minutes. We need to know all the players here and make sure nothing is missed. I have a lot of names to sift through here.”
I nod. “I’ll get Major updated and stop Carlson from doing any more damage. We can plan tandem Ops to hit everyone else together. One day, one message.”
He nods with a smile, not looking so disappointed. “I like that.”
“Is Major under a threat from this?” Like me, a regular day holds a threat for him, but shit like this could mean extra Security needs to be dealt with ASAP. That’s our new job.
Jordan nods holding his hand up to someone off his screen. “He’s named with a tie into the Black Sheep, but we don’t have an order going out yet. It was something Web sent.”
Figures. “I’ll get an Enforcer on him.” I look at the map. Two teams are in Major’s Club. “We have two teams up there.”
Raid is already typing. “Got him covered.”
“I need to call and let him know why he’s got new Security. I’ll have someone call you with a time for the planning meet.” My phone is in my hand. I need to be done here.
“Thanks, Cort. We’ll get everything on boards and tie the rest together.” He’s typing but hasn’t looked down. He must have gone to geek school too.
“I’m out.” Turning to Hade, I swipe scrolling to Major but don’t hit it yet. “Location?”
“Two possibles. We have Brothers calling now as teachers concerned with grades.”
