He laughs again. “You memorized it.”

“He does for shit like that. He remembers feelings and intent and reads people in a fucking scary way. Crow thought he was Indian but not from here,” Raid tells them. I mentally roll my eyes.

Seeing the property wall, I point giving names and they drop off before the driveway. They’ll make it before I do. Two Enforcers are with me when I pull in. He should have sprung for mechanical gates. As much as this pussy has called for Security, I’d have had this place harder to get into than Fort Knox. Raid calls clear. The Enforcers wait where I pointed at the driveway and at the beginning of the walkway. Falcon calls clear then an Enforcer does. Two steps up has me knocking on the door. All that’s left are inside.

A Security midget opens it. “What is with the fucking midgets lately.”

He pulls his gun way too slow. I hit him and he’s flying into the wall. Since he isn’t moving, I do. “Move in, cuff him and stay hidden until I call for you.”

Hearing footsteps coming my way I turn pointing my gun. This guy is bigger in every way. First thought is retired cop. Not even a good one. “On the floor.”

His gun falls and he puffs his way down like it was one of Herman’s workouts. I kick the gun away, cuff him and put a couch pillow over his head. “Eyes closed, don’t move.”

A door opens slowly and I’m shaking my head. WD-40 is fucking cheap. Laziness is a definite problem with our new entitled society. Today it’s helpful to me, so I go look for my lazy murderous freeloader.

The pussy is still standing at the door. I’d have run by now. “Contract out on Major Richards?” I ask.

Carlson relaxes as if a stranger with a gun, in a space-aged suit, with a helmet on, in his house, is a normal part of his day. “Are you taking Masters too?”

“Definitely,” I answer while pulling him out and closing his friends inside. Raid shows behind the pussy and covers his mouth.

“I’ll have the money...”

My shot to the head stops that.

“Now.” My two Enforcers come down the hall and I point to the door. “Hit hard and fast so they wake up not remembering their name, then cuff them.” They walk in as I walk out.

“Clear, Boss.” My Enforcers are so good at this shit. That was like three fucking seconds.

“Raid, get the video. I’m clear.”

Falcon walks my way with the other Enforcers. “Have Security pull computers, phones and IDs. Ex-cop on the floor, keep him blindfolded.”

“Roger, Boss. It will give them something to do.”

I replay those words. This was a long way to drag Security when we have Enforcers right here just watching them work.

“Hade, get me on with just Officers.”

A few seconds go by. “You’re set, Boss.”

“We’ve always kept Enforcers focused on the hard shit. Killing isn’t easy to let go of when you’re standing around with the aftermath. Crow thought keeping them moving would help them mentally clear it all out. Since we have lasers and the Brothers are different now, I can see the waste of Security when we’re not in a crowd or trying to cover a huge area.” New plans fly through my brain.

“That’s called mobile isolation. Military had forced isolation for all but Special Forces. I don’t see us needing shit like that.” As Falcon talks, I hear a yell. “Ex-cop won’t remember his name. My finger was tired and moved off the trigger slow.”

I shake my head smiling. He doesn’t need to move forward. With the laser, we can just stun.

Hade doesn’t care about the ex-cop getting zapped. “I agree, Boss. Enforcers can pull IDs and shit. We do when we want them in a hurry.”

“We need to meet when we get back. Get Herman on for it. I want this before the planning meet.”

“Roger, Boss.”

“Falcon, Brinks, I want ideas for the way we run Ops. Use the ride to get me that. Hade, use your wait time or something.”

He laughs. “Vick is on in a few minutes, Boss. This is right, we need changes made before we’re working to pay Ops bills.”

“Yeah.”
