Chapter Thirteen
Cort
Web and Jordan finished last night, but our meeting was held until this morning. Everyone was wrung out from the back-to-back meetings with, new Ops and training procedures, budgeting with Amos and Banks, then scheduling with Officers, McCabe and Beacon. Major suggested waiting and Jordan jumped on it. I didn’t say a word but mentally closed my eyes thanking fucking Christ.
The choppers will be landing around four and the shuttle from here will be at the city around five. All bikes and stock are placed and ready. Our lineup is set and on every Op Center’s board.
Cort - City Ops (Jordan) Falcon, Brinks
Hade - Colorado Badass Ops (Major/Clem) Rick, Alf
Raid - Phoenix Ops, Jinx, Beacon
Vick - Colorado Badass 2nd (Maverick) Mike, Pablo
We go through everything while Web and Amos keep it straight. We decide to wait on the Sheriff but have pussies close that will be dealt with. Meeting all together and having everything at my disposal made this a fuck of a lot easier than it used to be. When all the questions are answered, I’m ready and about to stand.
“Cort, will you be running the Op or a team in the city?” Major has to ask now.
“The old bible stated I had to stay a hundred miles from the city. Since Jordan has a new bible being written, I’m sure that’s not in there. Regardless, I’m on Ops. When it comes to an Op like this, I’ll be in the room. If it’s something local and smaller, I’ll run with my team.”
He nods like it was a good answer then says that. “I was hoping you’d say that. We need someone that knows the Brothers and skill today.”
I nod. “This is new. When everyone has done this more than once, we can run with your Officers and Ops teams without surprises. Until we get to the point where everyone is comfortable, I’ll be in Ops.”
“Thanks, Cort. I need to meet with my team to get surveillance covered for you.” Jordan is done. I nod and he’s out.
Major is smiling at me. “You should have taken the council seat. I haven’t done Ops in years, Cortland.” He uses Cortland when he’s proud or unsettled.
I shake my head at him. “You have the Brothers in Ops that are more than capable to run with us. Your job isn’t Ops, that’s mine and theirs.” I pause and he nods. “Major, I need to do it this way. The lessons I’ve learned are because no one was easy on me. I had to work for it all. I’ll get there, but I need to start at the bottom. I’ll never forget what I learned that way.”
He laughs and my Officers try to squash theirs. “Have it your way, Cort. Let me know what you need along the way.”
I smile, he’s settled. “I will, thanks, Major. I’m out.”
His feed shuts down and I look at the screen. Only his table is out. He’s smiling in his room full of Officers.
I look at mine. “Let’s get this shit done. Falcon, Brinks, get your teams readied and get to the city. Falcon, you’re Six-Guns, Brinks you’re in the city. Security will be on the chopper with another Enforcer team.”
“Roger, Boss,” they both say as they’re walking out. I don’t know if they’re excited or just focused on the job.
“Hade and Vick, touch base with your room Leads. Make sure cleanup and Security is set and ready to roll with the teams. Remember, they’re trained different than we are and use more Brothers, don’t touch their line ups but push them for more when you have to.” I get rogers and they both pull their phones.
“Raid, make sure Patcher has his EMTs alerted and ready in case we need them.”
“He’s ready. Medics for the other Clubs are too. They’re not in our suits so I added shit that Patcher gave me. I have Chaps and Manlin coming in to work surveillance for Vick at Colorado second and Hade with the MC. The chopper will have two of our Prospects on the mobile restock for you. It’s Strickland and Nance, they get the trucks loaded quick. I sent the restock list to the other Clubs too. I figured they wouldn’t know how we run.”
I nod. That was smart. “Good job, it’s not something we talked about and would have hurt. Does anyone have anything else we missed?”
McCabe shakes his head no with a smile. “I was going to ask about ammo but Raid got it. I missed the medics,” Herman says.
I nod. Vick is looking at his line up still. “Vick?”
“Do I have a Control here?”
Web sits up. “Yeah, all Ops Leads have a Control here. You talk to your Op Center Leads but our IT will throw anything you need up for you. Like an extra set of eyes.”
Vick relaxes. “Got it. Thanks. Our IT doesn’t miss shit.” He looks from Web to me and puts his hands up looking nervous. “No disrespect to them. I don’t think theirs do, but I’m comfortable with our albinos.”
