Chapter One

Raid

Looking at my schedule, I groan. I have schedules running every two weeks and change them up as we need it. Lately, we haven’t needed any changes, but Cort is back on full-time and I’m his partner today. Why I thought this would be a good idea eludes me. I hope I used that right, I’ll have to ask Rex.

“Does he have his new schedule?” Hade asks, walking in the meeting room door.

“Yeah, it goes out like the Brothers’ on Friday night.”

Web comes in and sits at his spot. “Church was crazy yesterday. Every Brother wanted to hand him a card like he’d remember where they came from. Anton was writing names on them for Seren. I don’t get why. The kid was frantic by the end.”

Hade smiles. Web’s younger than me and doesn’t get much about women it seems. “For a thank you note. She can send a note to them if she has the name.”

He watches to see if Hade is fucking with him then nods. “I’m glad the Brother from New York told them to give cards.”

Banks comes in and agrees. “Me too. I’ll invest it for Caelan. Seren is worried about college. I told her the Club would pay, but she wants a fund. Between the two of them, they could buy a fucking college.” He shakes his head, making me smile.

“He’s like two weeks old.” Web isn’t getting women anytime soon. “The As love him already. She let every one of them hold him yesterday.” I wait for more, but he’s done. Banks talks and I think about Web. He’s been more talkative about his albinos over the last year. He even has us calling them by names. He came into the Club a year before Crow died and I never heard anything but albino as a name. Since the new Club, they’re As or their names. They still don’t talk much but have their own building and seem to smile more.

Mounty and McCabe come in with smiles. “Brothers, Church was good. The Brothers loved seeing Pres with his boy,” McCabe says sitting.

“Boss or Cort. Pres is for the Brothers.” Hade reminds him as Falcon walks in.

“He’s more comfortable with Pres now, but I think you’re right, he likes Officers calling him Boss or Cort.”

Since I agree, I don’t say anything. He looks at me. “You’re in town C today. Do you want a team following?”

“Yeah, I was going to say it in the meeting. I want Enforcers, not Security. The Sheriff’s report shows four drug arrests over the weekend. All within a five-mile radius. Cort will find a way to the supplier, so we might as well be ready.”

Falcon nods and looks at Hade, who is typing on a tablet. “When did you get a tablet?” I want one.

The fucker knows I’m jealous and smiles looking up. “Web hooked me up. It’s what the As use. Akai put my apps on it, so it matches my laptop.”

I give Web a look. “You couldn’t hook me up?”

His hands go out in front of him. “I’ll get Alta to put your shit on one today. You never asked about a tablet, Brother.”

Falcon and Mounty ask for one too. Web glares at me, I laugh.

“I want one too. Seren asked Anton to get me one.” Cort walks in wearing full gear.

Web smiles. “He’s probably already got it done. I ordered one for all the Officers.”

What? “Why did you give me a look for them wanting one if you already had them?”

Web’s hands go up again. “I’m making the new app, scheduling IT, dealing with HR’s computer fuck-up and getting feeds put up every fucking where. On top of that, I’m in Ops covering shifts. It’s not like I’m slacking here.”

Cort laughs. “That’s why she asked Anton. You’re too busy, Brother. Hade, cover his Op shifts so he can breathe.”

“Roger, Boss.”

“Combined Ops, you’ll be called in for. Regular Ops is covered.”

Web looks relieved. “Thanks, Boss. I’ll be able to get HR straight today.”

“If you need help, get Jordan to send some geeks over. Is there a geek school we can recruit from close?” His serious expression has us all looking down or around the table. He’s a smart Brother, but always says geek school like it’s foreign to him. “Where did you go?”

My eyes snap to him. He never asks anything personal about Web.
