Seren closes her eyes for a second. “Okay. You’re Nance, right?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Are my son and family being picked up?” With a nod from him, she goes on. “Kids at the school?”

“They will be here shortly, they were locked down too.”

Holy crap! “Freedom, get Victory to call the studio and get herself and Harmony here. Melody will be here soon.” She looks back at Nance. “Are Prospects closing the businesses?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

The little General starts issuing orders and the Enforcers move quickly. All except Nance. He stays right with her as she leaves the cafeteria. What the hell amIsupposed to do?

“Umm, Freedom?” I say when she hangs up her phone. She stops dialing whoever she was calling next and looks up at me. “What do I do?”

She laughs. “Just be you. Seren has procedures to follow. No doubt she’ll get to your part soon. This is new, so she needs a minute to figure it out. Phoenix kids and families will be brought to the Training Center. We should make it that way or to the front so we can see what’s going on and where we are needed.”

I nod like I get all this and my bones didn’t just turn to jelly.

Raid

Falcon yells, “No! Clem, get Team Two coming from the other way!”

He looks back so I move quickly. “They’re going to box them in if we don’t get rid of them.”

Taking a headset, I guide Team Two to come around the block behind the one-percenters. These are Bastards, they’re not known for showing mercy. “Live, Team Two, and don't fucking miss, you have Brothers right in front of them.”

“Roger, Boss,” my Lead says calmly.

They’re clear and Falcon takes them from me running the Teams together to cover each other. I don’t understand why Clem was running one of his. I watch and see all the teams are split with Main’s Controls.

“Cort, we need them running two teams so the Enforcers are covered.”

He looks at me like I’m nuts. I point to the screen but Falcon waves and nods at him. Someone must have changed his lineup. This isn’t a pick up or small battle they’re in. It’s like a fucking war, the Brothers need their backs covered by more than IT.

“Major, we need to run your room before Enforcers start falling. Two teams ensure their backs are covered. Two teams can take twenty without a problem. You have bikes moving toward civilians shooting real bullets at anything moving. This is not the time to debate violence. They shot a fucking cop, they didn’t show up to debate you.”

Falcon has us all looking his way. “Fuck! Clem, they’re shooting live rounds! That was an old man!” He shakes his head. “I hope your family isn’t on that fucking road then.”

“Now an old man, headshot, it’s on your screen. Enforcers have the ability to stop civilians from getting hurt. What do you want to do?”

He hangs up and makes the call quick. “Falcon, take the room. Raid, take second Control. Trainees, I’m right here, let me know if you need anything.”

I roger and talk to Hal, my IT Control in Colorado. Fuck, this shouldn’t have gotten so close to civilians.

Someone’s got chopper views on the side screen. Cort moves to a tech and takes the headset from him. “Drop down and let the Brothers out. Make sure they cover you so you can give them a ride home, Brother.”

I keep my Teams running, but listen to Cort’s every word.

“Loudspeaker, warning to get out of the building.”

“Chopper Team, launch in one minute. All together. Bastards shot a cop, an old man and injured an Enforcer. They’re going for your Club next.”

Fuck. Guiding my Team, I give them some motivation like that and hear a growl before they speed up. These are good Teams, the Leads keep the Brothers together and talk the whole time so I’m watching their six and listening to Cort. I hear the explosion and want to look, but the Teams are engaged.

“Move, Chopper Team, you have another job. The next one shut down feeds so the Club wouldn’t see them coming. Let’s make sure they don’t forget that coming into Badass territory and creating chaos and death is not a smart move.”
