People watching is always good but I’m done. “I need to jump.”

Cort holds his hand up to Brinks and turns. “The other side of ol’ ladies. The Protectors have dogs guarding them.” He points the way we’re headed.

I don’t point out that I can feel the energy,I just nod, not surprised he heard me while talking to Brinks. Walker follows me like a good partner. I feel the shield and laugh. Mucimi is sitting here smiling. “I like the shield, Brother. Does it keep the din out?”

“Yeah, the kids are inside. I’m on the shield so they stay good. Too much and they’re all sleeping. They just got food so we need them to eat.” I love the coparent shit coming from him.

I push the shield with him and sit.

Walker does too. “I like this better. The dogs won’t let anyone close.”

I smile at the line of dogs. “Nope.”

“You’re staying, your paint is showing, it makes your eyes glow like Aiyana.”

I look at Mucimi. “Can you stop pointing that out every fuckin’ time you see it?”

“No. You’re here. Let them eat. We have games in an hour.” He’s gone.

Walker laughs. “You’re an easy partner. We got an hour then we’re playing games.”

I shake my head at him. “I’m jumping. You’re on duty.”

“You’re on the shield.” He doesn’t like the partner duty, I guess.

I smile at that. “I do have ancestors for that shit. Don’t let anyone touch me.” I jump hearing him swear. I’m holding the shield and it will be better from the reservation.

Chapter Ten

Teach Club

Two days

There are too many people at breakfast. Dyani holds my hand tighter as we walk through the crowd to the Officers table. We have forty trainees; the dining room should not be crowded. I get tired of putting my arm out to move the Brothers and suspend them so we have a path.

“Hey!”

I smile at Danny. “Just trying to get to our seats. Shit.”

Ari laughs. “I said the same thing. They’re going to get a complex.”

“Preses, Brothers. We need a bigger table.”

Ari doesn’t like that idea. “No, we don’t.” He points. “The trainees are setting tables on the side. It’s a nice day and we’re not making the Club bigger to fit these Brothers that are here for a few days. They got tents and their own kitchen, so this is on you, but we’re not expanding.”

I look at the Brothers watching him and glare at the Brothers laughing.

“Got it, Brother. How is this on me? I didn’t invite anyone here.”

He gives me a look so I give him one and think he needs to relax. “There here for you. Don’t start the eye thing. I didn’t invite them either.”

I nod once and move Brothers down with their plates so I can sit by Ari with Dyani beside me.

“What the fuck, Brother. I’d have moved.”

My eyes whip to Jessie. “Your fork is still in your hand with eggs on it. Since I wanted to sit with my ol’ lady who lives and works here, I made it happen.”

“Put away the freaky shit.” He stuffs his fork in his mouth.
