Everyone else started laughing too.
The mother walking by gave us a weird look and grabbed her son’s hand. They hurried off.
“We must look insane right now,” RJ said.
“Hey, Mr. Nigel,” Jacob said. “I need a favor.” He paused and looked at me. “Go back inside,” he whispered. “You still have a dress to pick out for homecoming.”
“Or maybe your mom needs some help picking out some more lingerie,” RJ said. “Think she’d recognize me if I assisted her in the changing room?”
“I’m going to kill you,” Liam said. He put his hand out and Sophie handed him his cane.
RJ just laughed.
“Go,” Jacob whispered go me.
I hardly felt like picking out a homecoming dress right now. But he was right. My mom would definitely notice me missing soon. I hurried back inside. I really hoped Jacob could get the backups of the security tapes.
Scarlett and the Fake Boyfriend - Chapter 9 – I Hate Him
Thursday
“But were the kiss thief’s hands rough?” Sophie asked. “Because I really think it might be Leo the Rugged Thief.”
“I don’t remember,” I said. She’d been asking me questions about the kiss all day and...all I had really been focused on was the way he made me feel. We were about to head to lunch, so at least she’d drop it then. We couldn’t talk about this in front of Axel. In case it was him.
“Did the kiss thief touch your face?”
It felt like he’d touched me everywhere. “I...I don’t remember, Soph.”
She shoved some books in her locker. “It’s Leo the Rugged Thief. It has to be him. Maybe wilderness camp just didn’t roughen up his hands as much as we thought or something. But he’s a literal thief. And I have a feeling about this.”
“You just don’t want it to be Mr. Halifax,” Jacob said as he stopped by our lockers.
I cringed.
Sophie groaned. “I just can’t even fathom the idea that he might have seen me in that fat suit. He’ll never be able to look at me the same if he did.”
“If he’s the kiss thief, he wasn’t looking at you anyway,” Jacob said.
Sophie shoved his arm. “Shut your whore mouth.”
He laughed. “You’ve been hanging out with Mr. Nigel too much. Speaking of which...he finally texted me back.”
“Please tell me he has backups to the Odegaard security cameras,” I said.
“Do you want the good news or the bad news?”
Sophie and I looked at each other.
“The good news,” Sophie said.
“The good news is that he does have backups.”
“And the bad news?” I asked.
Jacob sighed. “He says it will take him three months to get the footage for us.”
“Three months?” I just stared at him. “But...why?”
