“Stop it.” I shoved his shoulder. “I’m leaving.” I shook my hand out of his grip and walked out of the kitchen.

“Scarlett!” he called after me.

I kept walking.

“Scarlett, wait!” He stepped in front of me, blocking the doorway.

“Don’t look at me.”

“Scarlett, your first time doing this shouldn’t be with some stranger in a dark closet,” he said.

I stared at my shoes on the ground instead of him. “Did Sophie really not tell you any of this?”

“No.”

Kill me.

“Scarlett, look at me.” When I didn’t lift my head, he put his fingers under my chin and made me make eye contact with him. “If you ever want something, all you need to do is ask.” He was no longer laughing. And he didn’t look appalled or anything.

“But do you want to do third base stuff?” I asked. “You’re not even attracted to me.”

“I never said I wasn’t attracted to you.” His fingers fell from my chin. “I just said you changed.”

“So youdon’twant it?”

“I’m still a guy, Scarlett.”

That was hardly him really asking for it. But it also wasn’t him saying no.

He scrunched up his nose.

Oh.This was where he was going to say no. He didn’t have to make such a disgusted face though.

“Do you smell that?” he asked. “It smells like something burning...shit.” He ran back into the kitchen where the omelet he was making was on fire.

Oh my God!I ran after him. “We need water!” I yelled and grabbed a cup.

“No, don’t...”

I tossed the water on the frying pan and the flames lapped up even higher.

Jacob stepped in front of me and poured something all over the omelet.

The flames immediately started to die down. He grabbed the pan with a hand towel and tossed it in the sink.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I nodded. “What did you put on it to stop the fire?”

“Baking soda.”

“Good to know for next time,” I said.

He laughed. “Hopefully there won’t be a next time.” He looked over at the pan that was still sizzling in the sink. “So there goes dinner.”

“I can’t believe you really just invited me here for dinner.” I shook my head.

“I really am hungry after the games,” he said with a laugh. “I can’t believe you thought I was getting you alone for...”
