I’m not sure what type of money Khalif is supposed to have, or else I would’ve offered him the money. If he was just a farmer, I probably could’ve afforded the payout, but to know that he was selling drugs too, that man probably has millions stashed away somewhere.
My mind has been restless, trying to come up with a solution. I’m just going to have to tell him. Whatever happens after that, it’s going to be what it is.
I turned into the driveway and noticed a car parked there. Reese’s truck was gone because I remember that she hadsomething to do with Dallas. I’m not sure who this car belongs to. The closer I got up on it, I saw the license plate.Mrs. No.Tossing my truck in reverse, I backed up.
“Remedi Norié!” she yelled my name from the front porch, halting me.
“Shit,” I mumbled under my breath.
Putting the truck back in drive, I pulled back up to the house. There was no point in trying to pull off and leave since she had already seen me. That woman was determined, and she was just going to sit here ’til I had the guts to return.
Shutting off the truck, I gathered my things and climbed out. “How did you find me?” I asked her as I shut the door.
“That’s beside the point. I thought I told you to come home.”
Shaking my head, I stepped up onto the porch. “Ma, we’ve had this discussion several times. I can’t come home right now.”
“You can. You just choose not to. Let me find out that Reese’s ass is rubbing off on you.”
Ma couldn’t stand how Reese just up and left the city and didn’t have to answer to anyone about it. Reese lived her life unapologetically, and Ma hated it. Here she was, been married for thirty years. She had me when she was young, trying to run up behind my daddy. He finally wanted to settle down and gave her a ring. Didn’t even bother to propose, and they ended up getting married at the courthouse. Not saying that there’s anything wrong with getting married at the courthouse. He didn’t put any effort into getting her, and she still stayed. She built that man up like Barbra the builder and was stuck with his ass now and acted as if it was everyone else’s fault. If she wasn’t happy, she could’ve been left. She has free will.
“What’s so bad about Reese?”
“She acts like she’s still a child.”
I know someone who likes it.
“Well, I’m telling you now, you wasted your time coming here thinking that you’re about to force me to come back home. I have a few things I need to take care of before I even think about going.”
Brushing past her, I entered the house and went straight for my bedroom. I’m tired. My feet are aching like hell, and I needed to take a shower, especially after having sex with Khalif earlier and only getting cleaned up by a paper towel. Crazy work. I’m sure I smell like sex. On my way home, I could feel his kids slipping out of me. Whatever Ma had to say, I really didn’t care to hear it.
A car pulled up outside before I even made it all the way to my bedroom. I placed my purse down on the dresser and left right out with Ma standing in the middle of the hallway. She was about to leave me alone ’til she got her point across.
The front door opened, and Reese entered the house. She took one look at me and spun on her heels.
“Where you think you’re going?” I caught her before she could make a run for it.
Turning back around, the corners of her mouth twitched upward, strained and trembling, as though the effort alone might snap the muscles in her face.
“It was you, wasn’t it?” I questioned her. That’s the only way possible that Ma could’ve found out where I was. She didn’t have no location on me. Before I left the city, I turned my location sharing off with her. I didn’t need anyone from Atlanta to know where I was for just in case purposes. Sure, I hit a lil snag, but that didn’t cause for ground for her to call my mama.
“Okay, I did. After what happened the other night, I thought it was the best thing to do. Prada got killed, Remedi. I could’ve been killed. It’s time for this to come to a stop.”
“I don’t need you intervening. I got it under control.”
“You don’t seem like you do, Remedi. I’m only trying to look out for you,” Reese responded and stepped further into the house.
“We all love you, Remedi. You just need to come home, and we can figure everything out from there,” Ma stated.
“I can’t deal with this right now.” Grabbing my purse, I marched back out the house and hopped into my car. My phone chimed, and I looked down at it.Time’s almost up.
Starting my truck, I left out the driveway and headed for Khalif’s house. I don’t know what else to do, and I just can’t find it in myself to steal anything from him. That man hasn’t done anything to me for me to be his downfall. He has a whole cocaine farm for crying out loud. I’m sure that he’ll be able to handle Mitchell’s bitch ass.
Turning into his driveway, I saw the garage was pulled up. The light illuminated from it, letting me know that he’d been in there doing something and still might be. Stopping behind his truck, I got out of mine and approached the garage, finding several boxes sitting in there stacked up. My eyes landed on a huge safe nestled in the corner by the door to the house. How convenient.
“Remedi?” He called out my name from behind, and my body went rigid. I’d told myself that I wanted to come over here and tell him everything, but now that I’m standing here, I’m not too sure. Spinning on my heels, I faced him.
“Can we go somewhere and talk?” Being in the same room with this safe was palpitating my heart.
