Camden floods my cock with her release, and I give her everything in return, my cum splashing into her throbbing pussy as she sucks down every last drop. We’re both grunting, shaking, sweating as we ride that high together.

Eventually, Camden goes limp in my arms. I bury my face into the side of her neck and pump into her twice more before collapsing. I roll to the side and drape my freshly fucked little angel over my chest.

Cupping the side of her face, I tip her head up and kiss her closed eyelids and flushed cheeks.

“That was… amazing,” she says, still trying to control her breath. “I can’t move, but I don’t want to.”

I chuckle at her response. “I don’t want you to move either,” I murmur, circling my arms around her and sliding a leg in between hers. I want us tangled up forever.

After several peaceful moments of silence, Camden props herself up on my chest. She leans forward and surprises me by pressing her lips to my left temple, right over my scar.

“When you’re ready, I want to hear your story, too,” she says softly.

How can I deny this woman anything? I turn my head and kiss Camden’s cheek before nuzzling into the side of her neck. “I was on a mission overseas,” I start.

My girl scoots up next to me in bed and places her hand over my heart. I rest my hand on top of hers, letting her warmth ground me in this moment.

“I joined the Army right out of high school. Never knew my dad, and my mom made it very clear she didn’t want to be a mom. I got out as soon as the ink dried on my diploma.”

“You have no family?”

I shrug. “The Savage Kings are my family.”

Camden nods. It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell her that she’s my family, too. But I don’t want to scare her off with my intensity.

“I had been in the Army for almost a decade and worked my way up through the ranks until I became the go-to sniper for special assignments. It was supposed to be a simple job.” I close my eyes as memories of that day flood my mind. “Our intel indicated the target was with two of his closest allies, all three men wanted for war crimes. I see his silhouette in my crosshairs when I close my eyes at night. I had the shot. I had it,” I say in a rough, gravelly voice.

“You’re safe with me,” Camden whispers. I open my eyes as her hand slips from beneath mine. She cups the side of my faceand presses the lightest kiss to my lips before pulling away to give me room to speak.

“The kid came out of nowhere. I had my finger on the trigger and the green light from my Commanding Officer, but then a kid joined the fucker on his front porch, blocking my shot. I missed my chance, but I thought I’d get another one. I… fuck,” I mutter, lifting a hand to rub my eyes.

“It’s okay,” my sweet girl murmurs. “I’m right here.”

I nod and gear up for the rest of the story. “It was a purposeful distraction. These motherfuckers didn’t think twice about using their own kids as shields. By the time we realized we were compromised, their counterstrike was already underway. I didn’t even have time to point my gun before a bright light flashed and a deafening roar exploded near my left ear. I don’t have any memory of what happened next, just waking up in a hospital stateside with the worst headache of my life.”

“Diego, oh my god,” Camden gasps. “A bomb?” she guesses.

“Bullet,” I correct. “Grazed my temple. Apparently, the wound bled so much that everyone assumed I was dead until the dust settled and scouts were sent out to assess the damage.”

“You were shot in the freaking head?!” Camden practically yells. Her response makes me smirk, which is the last thing I thought I’d do after reliving the nightmare that ended my military career.

“Not exactly,” I say, gathering her hand in mine so I can kiss the inside of her wrist.

“You were shot in the freaking head,” Camden repeats, though it isn’t so much a question as a statement of fact. “And you’re still here. That’s… Diego, that’s incredible. I mean, not the actual injury. I can’t imagine. God, I’m so sorry you went through that. I’m so thankful you survived. I don’t know what I’d do if…”

Her voice fades into a sniffle, and I realize she’s crying. For me? I don’t understand.

“I’m here now,” I remind her. “I’m right here.”

She nods. “Can you believe we found each other?” she whispers. “What if you never came back from your last mission? What if I wasn’t allowed to leave the compound? What if I picked a different town to move to? Or…”

“Slow down, beautiful,” I say in a calming voice. “Breathe for me.”

She nods again, but I still sense the chaotic thoughts swirling around her mind. I gently rub the skin between her thumb and forefinger like she did for me the day in the bookstore. She looks down at our hands and smiles before turning her attention back to me.

“We’re both here,” I tell her. “And nothing else matters. We’re good for each other, yeah?”

“Yeah,” she confirms. “We’re perfect.”
