“Thanks for coming to my rescue. I didn’t doubt it,” Nora said. “But I had it covered, just in case.”
She felt Relyn’s sigh rise and fall.
“I am just glad you are safe. I should die if you are harmed,” he said.
She patted him on the chest. “Now you know how I feel when I see you fighting those big gorillas.”
“I feared your death, constantly,” he said.
“Exactly!”
He seemed put out by the fact that she thought he could actually lose a fight. He sighed again. “Your journey to Terra may have to be delayed again.”
Home. She honestly hadn’t thought about it in days. Going back to her old life seemed laughable now. What would Relyndo on Earth while she was spending day in and day out inside a classroom, teaching surly teenagers the classics?
“As long as we can get help for my student Marco, I can delay a trip indefinitely. I mean there are a few things that I’d like to have-”
Relyn pulled her up for a long lingering kiss.
“My life is with you now, big guy,” she said.
“I am yours. I will make you a home.”
Nora smiled. “I think we have a mess to clean up first.”
“I absorbed most of it, I think.”
“I wasn’t talking about that mess. You did eat my clothes, I see.”
He shrugged. “I like you naked.”
“Well, I like you anyway I can have you,” she replied.
“What about the mess?”
“It can wait.”
Chapter 28
Relyn
Rutra was dead. It wasn’t even the Mahdfel that had ended him either. It was a standard mutiny. When Rutra had gone running back to his ship, the rest of his loyal crew had promptly spaced him. There was no pity for him among any quarters.
Grom, however, with the promise of lucrative Mahdfel contracts, had been promoted and was now putting together a more reliable and less leaning toward piracy crew and staffing Alana’s Misery. The ship had been renamed to Grom’s Delight much to the objection of several members. Grom insisted that it would be a clear message in the future, because what kind of pirate would name their ship Delight?
Alana had been returned and imprisoned on Etlon 1. They seemed reluctant to apply the swift justice of death for the kidnappings and murders she had committed. Etlonians were softer on the original women that they had found.
The buzz and excitement around their return was palpable. The Etlonian ship had taken all the women and arrived nearly a day ahead of them. Their entourage with Bright, Wendy, Nora and himself walked from the landing pads to the center square, drawing people as they went, until it felt like the entire contents of the city were standing in a ring around them.
“Welcome home!” Kave shouted. “I had not hoped to see you, sister, so soon,” he said to Wendy. She shrugged.
“It hasn’t been boring,” Wendy said.
“I will take her back to Terra,” Bright stated.
“No you will not!” at least three people shouted at once, including Wendy.
“I will take her,” Relyn said. “If she wishes to go, and any of the others that want to go.”
