I pressed my hands against Cole’s chest to try and move out of his grasp, my fingertip brushing against his skin peeking through the creased buttoned top.

The second our skin touched I could feel it, that horrid spicy tanginess was smothering him from the inside out. He wasn’t sick with Darkness but was sick with a magic that felt wrong; it felt vile and deadly.

The vibration within my chest spread through my arms and heated my hands. This power inside of me wanted to leak out, to delve into Cole and grasp the horridness that was hurting him. So, I closed my eyes and gave it the acceptance it needed. I gave it my full permission to do whatever it needed to do. I let my magic expand around us, allowed it to search out for anything that may need healing on Cole. It spanned out, searching, seeking. There were no visible wounds, but I could sense something, something tearing at him. His mind was fuzzy, and it wasn’t from the drink. Frowning, I pressed further, searched further, down his chest, his arms and shit...there…his stomach was externally fine, smooth and healthy. But internally, it was like he had been butchered, sliced and rearranged. Something was spreading there, winding around his veins and organs, travelling hidden within the blood straight to his brain.

What the actual fuck?

I needed to get whatever that was out of his body! It was killing him.

Taking another deep slow breath, I took a risk and pictured his organs healing, stitching themselves back together, rearranging to their rightful places. And somehow, I just knew that it was actually working, and the organs were doing exactly as I had wished. I moved onto whatever was swimming around his blood. It tried to hide from me, but I found it, sneaking around his body, causing more damage along its way. I mentallygrabbed at it, held it within my mental grasp as I commanded it gone. Screamed at it to leave his body. To simply fuck off.

Cole groaned beneath me, his back arching off the bed as he held me tighter. He said he was poisoned with Darkness, but someone had put this poison there. Someone was doing this to him. And he had no fucking clue what they were doing.

Pulling back and opening my eyes, my head begun to throb as weariness took over. That took more from me than I had expected, but looking down I could see Cole’s paleness was subsiding. His body grew healthy beneath me as his White magic now filled him with healing that it couldn’t provide before. Whatever was inside him had stopped his magic from doing its rightful thing.

Who had done this to him?

I tried to wiggle from his arms, but he held me tighter before he opened his still glassy eyes.

They softened before he mumbled, “Gotta tell her, gotta tell Amaya...she’s the only one. She can…” His eyes slid shut again as he mumbled incoherently.

“Tell me what!” I demanded as I finally extracted myself from his arms, ignoring my mark as it practically cried out from the loss of his touch.

I was the only one to what!?

“Cole” I tapped at his face in urgency, I didn’t know what he was on about, but I suddenly felt like it was important.

“Cole!” I snapped as I tapped his cheek a bit harder this time. My chest constricted just as my breath hallowed out, a gasping wheeze coming from me as I began to struggle to breathe. That feeling of someonepressing on my chest once again causing me to gasp desperately for air.

What was happening to me?

Cole grumbled as he squinted up at me. “Amaya–” groaning he rubbed at his head before his arm flopped down to his side. “She’s the only one that can go through the portals. Her magic...even if they are shut. She’s the only one…her magic…can sense the portals…openings.” He was out like a light, a small snore creeping from his throat as he lay still on Rí’s bed of clouds, his blond hair stark against the black sheets.

I could go through the portal.

I could go through.

My heart slammed in my chest as my hands began to sweat. Wiping them on my jeans, I scratched my nails at my legs, pulling at the fabric as my mind raced with his words.

The pain within my chest subsided as I gripped my hair in my clenched hands. Did I get Rí? Ziel?

I couldn’t wait.

I needed to see my boys.

Even if to check they were okay.

Then I could come back and tell my Mates.

Right?

I ran from the room, down the stairs and as I turned the corner, I slammed into a soft body before we both fell to the floor in the darkened hallway. My butt hurt as I dragged myself up. My heart still raced as my eyes adjusted to the darkness.

Bri glared at me as she rubbed her own rounded butt. “Amaya? Are you okay? Why are you running? I waslooking for you. Hay your hairs floating! You look mag...”

I cut her off with the press of my hand to her mouth. I hated to see the spark drift from her face, but I had to rush. I didn’t have time. I could see the boys. Now.

“I have to go. The portal can be opened!” Giving her no more explanation, I walked around her to the back door that was hidden in the dark hallway.
