Her body tightens around my cock, and she gasps and moans as another orgasm rocks her. Nails digging into my back, shemakes the most erotic noises and locks her feet behind my ass, binding us together.

The first tingle of orgasm starts at the base of my spine while her body still pulses, taking me over the edge. Unable to help myself, I break free of her legs and fuck her hard and fast as I bury my face in the pillow to muffle my own cries.

Miraculously, she comes again, and between us, we groan, pant, cry out to various deities before collapsing.

Tugging the blanket, I cover our naked bodies and hold her close. I kiss the top of her head. “I think we were a bit too loud. I’m surprised your mother has not stormed out here with a weapon raised.”

She laughs low and musically. “What weapon?”

“I’m sure she can wield a lamp as well as you can.”

Another laugh before she sobers and stares at me, then touches my ears. “That was amazing. Do you think humans and elves can have children?”

I brush her wild curls away from her eyes. “I should have taken more care.” I’m an idiot, even though the idea of our child growing inside her thrills me beyond anything I’ve ever hoped for in my life. “Yes. I think it’s likely possible.”

“We might be more cautious, but I’m not worried.” She tucks her head under my chin and curls against me.

Holding her, I wish I could give her a life filled with comfort and safety. “Why not?”

“Because if I conceived, it would be a part of you that I would always have, even if our lives don’t let me have you.”

Running my hand over her soft hair, I feel as if my heart might burst. “We can’t know what will happen. Perhaps our future is too unsure to make plans, but it doesn’t mean all possibilities are filled with doom and loneliness.”

She nods. “Anything is possible.”

Before dawn, Wren returned to the bedroom.

I shower and dress before the ladies join me in the kitchen. “What is the best way to get to the Isle of Skye?” I ask around a mouthful of grapes.

Birdie grins. “I just happened to look it up yesterday, and there is a train that can take us to the highlands, and then we can take a bus over the Skye Bridge.”

“Just happened to look it up, Momma?”

“Don’t be ugly, or I’ll mention that you were not in your bed when I woke in the night.” Birdie opens the refrigerator and pulls out the bowl of grapes and another with blueberries.

Wren blushes but holds up her hands in defeat. “So, we need train tickets, but I think we’ll need to trade in our rolling bags for backpacks.”

It’s a good point. “The wheeled bags will not be convenient in any terrain besides the city, and I don’t know where we’ll land on the other side of the portal. A pack like mine will be more practical.”

“Shopping trip,” Birdie sings, making Wren laugh.

“I feel the two of you are not taking this journey seriously. This is no ‘vacation’ as you call it. We will likely be walking into danger.” I push aside my plate with grapes and cheese.

“That’s no reason not to enjoy a short shopping trip, Liam.” Birdie smiles at me, adding to my concerns.

Wren covers my hand with hers. “We understand. It’s just in our nature to look at things in the brightest light until the situation calls for a more serious outlook or response. Don’tworry. That said, I need to send a few emails about commissions that will have to be delayed or canceled.” She goes into the bedroom and closes the door.

“These commissions are for jewelry?”

Birdie looks at the bedroom door and then at me. “Yes. I don’t think she’s had deposits, though. It’s just a courtesy to let them know there may be some delay.”

“What will she tell them?” Saying,I’m going to another world to fight a witch queenprobably wouldn’t be wise.

With a sharp laugh, Birdie says, “I don’t know. She’s clever.”

“Indeed.” I eat another grape, but my appetite isn’t what it should be as worry has overshadowed everything else.

Lost in my thoughts, I don’t notice Birdie staring until she clears her throat. “Are you in love with my daughter?”
