"We are all different." Cameron braced a hand on his shoulder. "You scared of telling your family?"

Jared nodded. "When I do, that will be it. We won't talk anymore."

"Maybe they'll surprise you like mine did."

"No, not mine. But, unlike yours, losing mine won't be a huge loss. They've never accepted me, gay or straight. I was nothing more than a tax write off for them."

Cameron frowned. "Wanna come meet my mom? She'll adopt you."

Jared laughed. "Thanks, but I think I'm a bit old for adoption. How is she doing anyway?"

"Better, but still not well. I've moved a nurse in with her since she won't move here. It helps give me peace of mind and gives Mom someone to talk to. For now, it works."

"That's good. I hope she keeps improving."

"Me too." Cameron sighed. "Okay, enough of this. If we're going to get to work on time, we better get this delivered. You want to grab one end?" He turned to the hutch.

Glad they had dropped the whole gay subject and were focusing on other things, Jared joined him, picking up one end of the hutch. His nerves were frayed, but coming out to Cameron had been easier than he thought. Now he just needed to tell everyone else and learn to be okay with it in public. Determined to keep Orson in his life, he vowed he'd find a way. One step at a time. It was the best he could do.
