"Then let's go find out. Kurt will have a plan." He kissed my cheek. "You ready to go?"
"Yeah." I pulled back and tried to smile. "Thanks for keeping me calm. I don't know if I could do this without you, without our link."
Bayne kissed me softly, his hands cupping my cheeks. "You could get through anything on your own, but I'm glad you don't have to. I'll always be here to take what I can off your shoulders so you don't need to carry the whole burden."
"I love you."
"I love you too. Now let's get out of here. We have some justice to serve." Bayne took my hand and led me out to the car.
In the silence of the car, I thought about everything that had happened. Somehow, because of something tied to Bridger, four wolves had been attacked. Thankfully, the other two not as badly as we were. I couldn't imagine Bridger letting our secret out. There was no way he would put us at risk. His family, his pack, his friends meant too much to him. I'd seen him in the height of sexual arousal and not once had he lost control. I refused to believe that he'd lost control with Mary. No matter how far we were pushed, we'd learned to always be in control of our wolves.
I sighed, wishing I had the answers and scared we would never find them.
"We'll make him pay for what he did." Bayne reached over, covering my hand with his.
"I know. I just hope he gives us the answers we need. I need know why. What happened to make him do this? What bothers me most is that I won't be able to go after him. I'm going to have to sit back and let you or the others take him." I wanted to be the one to grab hold of him and watch the fear in his eyes as he realized we knew what he'd done. Sadly, I wouldn't be able to see anything. But I would enjoy the smell of his fear.
"Let's talk to Kurt and see what he has planned. This is going to be dangerous enough since we are dealing with a human and we don't know if he's told anyone else about us. We have to remember that there were two humans who attacked you. We don't know who the second one was yet. It wasn't one of the scents from the bar."
I nodded. "We could have this all wrong. It could be the other person who has an issue with us and told Mary's twin. This could have nothing to do with Mary at all."
"We just can't know." Bayne sent a wave of love through our link. "We'll find the answers."
The car came to a stop and shut off. "Let's go find out what they know."
I stepped out of the car and waited for Bayne to come to me. It was frustrating that I couldn't even walk from the parking lot into the building alone. I probably could have found my way following the scents and sounds, but I would have stumbled into other cars and tripped over the steps, making a fool out of myself.
Bayne led me inside and through the large main room into the kitchen. I smelled beef and some strange spice I couldn't place. I had to wonder if the women here ever stopped cooking. It seemed as if there was always someone here. I was still amazed at how well Kurt's pack was put together.
"Morning, boys," Corta called from across the room.
"Good morning, beautiful," Bayne said.
"Morning, Corta." I sat down in the chair Bayne led me to.
"Coffee or something else for you two?" Corta asked.
"Coffee please." I hated having her serve me, but I didn't even want to try and find my way around the kitchen yet.
"Me too." Bayne sat down beside me. "Have you seen Kurt?"
"He's with Josh in their room. Said they'd be down in a few." Corta touched my shoulder. "Coffee is in front of you. Can I get you guys anything else?"
"Thanks, but this is good." I smiled toward her.
"I hear you may have a lead on who attacked you?" She sounded across the room again.
"I hope so." I wrapped my hand around the coffee cup.
"You don't have to hope. We know who he is." Kurt's voice came from the doorway to the kitchen.
I blew out a relieved breath. "Now what?"
"I have a call in to Pack Authority to get permission to handle this our own way. Once I have that, then we'll take him into custody and get some answers from him," Kurt said, suddenly sitting beside me.
"And the second person?"
"We're hoping that it's one of his close friends. We'll follow him for a bit and try and match the scent. His name is Justin. He's Mary's twin brother. He's a mechanic at Kyser's Automotive, which is owned by one of our pack members, so picking him up shouldn't be an issue. I've called the owner, Tom, and he said we are more than welcome to come take him. He said to let him know when we were on the way and he'd make sure the two other humans who work there are sent on an errand, so they won't witness anything. Once we have him, we'll secure him off-site, and see what answers we can get. As for his friend, it will all depend on if we can catch the scent before we take Justin or if we go after him later," Kurt said.
