Xander laughed. "I was wondering how long it would take. I'd been teasing you a good five minutes. I was starting to worry I'd lost my touch."
"Oh no. You still have it." Matt sighed. "Now I want a nap."
"Me too." Xander rolled to his side, stopping to strip the condom off Matt's cock before flopping back down beside him.
"It's a good thing our job doesn't make us work normal hours." Matt glanced at the clock, seeing it was after ten in the morning. He had been drained when he went to bed, emotionally burned out after breaking down, then trying to digest the fact that at least some of the information the psychic had given was real.
"Yeah, I'd never make it working a nine-to-five." Xander sighed.
"You know, when I signed up, Bryon told me how much I'd get paid, but I never thought to ask, who pays us? Where does the money come from?"
Xander rolled to his side, going up on one arm as he looked down at Matt. "Are you sure you want to know?"
"Do I?" Matt narrowed his eyes. "Is it legal?"
"Um, technically, no."
Matt sighed. "How bad?"
"I personally don't think it's bad at all. It's not a secret Bryon keeps from the team. We all know. I'm sure he just wanted to get you hooked on the job before telling you everything."
Matt rolled to his side, so he was facing Xander, resting a hand on his tattooed hip. "Okay, let's hear this." He caressed his fingers gently over the skin, hoping whatever he was about to find out wasn't so horrible he would have to quit working for the team. The money was nice, but so was the job itself. He loved knowing he was saving people.
"Well, Carter might work his magic and rearrange some of the pedophile's bank accounts a bit. He might transfer some money here, and some there. He claims there is no way to trace it all. From what they say, Bryon and he invest the money, then draw our weekly wages off that. I've never really dug into how they do it all, but honestly, I have no issue taking money from these assholes anyway. I'm just glad that Carter or Bryon know what they are doing when it comes to investments. I enjoy those payments every Friday."
Matt sucked on his bottom lip, thinking it all over. He really didn't feel guilty about where his money was coming from. If the pedophiles had the money still, they would probably use it to groom, buy, or manipulate children one way or another. "I guess that's not so bad. I mean, it isn't legal, but I've seen what some of these assholes do with the money. I've seen the sex trafficking and the parties and other things they do. If taking their money might stop this while helping us to find them, then I'm all for it."
Xander nodded. "That's the way I feel about it too."
Matt leaned over and kissed Xander softly. "Thanks for being so honest, especially last night. You were right to tell me about the case, even if it's just a small thing, it is something. I'll talk to Bryon later today or tomorrow and let him know I do want all the facts." Matt stretched. "Probably tomorrow. Today I'm not feeling like doing much. Do you have a job tonight?"
"No, I'm actually leaving town day after tomorrow to do a sting in Texas. Kasey, Dyson, and I are all headed there. There are eight kids being held and four adults at all times securing them. We'll be back in the area a couple of days after."
"There's four of them and only three of you?" Matt didn't want to examine the wave of fear that went through him at the thought that Xander might get hurt. Honestly, any of them, but it was Xander that he was most concerned about.
"We'll be okay. We've done it before. We'd like to add a few members to the team, but as you can guess, this isn't a job we can post a notice online about, and even then, not many people would be willing to do what we do. It takes a strong mind and stomach some days."
"Yeah, I couldn't do it." Matt still got nauseated thinking about exactly what Xander did to people. He wasn't upset by it by any means, but he had trouble with the visual of the whole thing. There would be no way he could do it or even watch it in person.
Matt's phone buzzed on the nightstand, and he rolled picking it up. "It's Bryon," he said to Xander before answering, "hello?"
"Hey, Matt, I was wondering if you could come to the house. We've got some information for you." Bryon sounded more serious and professional than he usually did.
"It's about Faith?" Matt sat up straight in bed.
Xander sat up beside him, his hand going to Matt's thigh.
"We'll talk when you get in here, there are some leads we need to discuss, but it's best we do it in person," Bryon told him.
"Is she there?" Matt glanced at Xander, his heart pounding at what Bryon could need to talk about.
"We'll talk when you get here. Do I need to send someone to pick you up?" Bryon's tone changed to concerned.
"No, no, it's okay. I'll be there in fifteen minutes." Matt climbed out of bed.
"Make it twenty, don't speed. What we have to talk about isn't urgent enough to get yourself killed. Get here safe," Bryon warned.
"I'll be there." Matt hung up, pulling on a pair of pants, ignoring the dried cum on his stomach as he buttoned them up and glanced over at Xander. "He says he needs to talk to me. It has to be about Faith, right?"
