"Why all of a sudden? Why these two kids?" Carter asked.
"It feels right. I've bonded with these two unlike anyone else since Faith. I can't let them get tossed into some bad home, besides, they will have to be split up since Lisa is pregnant. There's no getting around that unless a foster home is willing to take on both Lisa, Jeff, and the baby when it comes."
"And you're willing to take on a baby?" Bryon asked.
"Of course. I'm good with babies and kids. Who better to help Lisa through pregnancy than a doctor? Both kids like me, and they can stay together if I take them in. I've given this a ton of thought. It's not something that I just decided an hour ago. I want to do this. I just need you to make it so it looks like I've jumped through all the hoops and am approved to take them."
Carter nodded. "I can do that, but that doesn't mean someone won't ever catch on. Then what do you do?"
"Hopefully, I've adopted them by that point and no one can say a word," Beau told them.
"You plan to adopt them?" Bryon sat back in his chair.
"Yeah, of course. I can't risk them splitting them up later. I have no clue what Lisa is going to do with the baby once it's born. It's her choice and I'll support her no matter what she does, but I want those kids to have a home. I want them with me." The more Beau talked about it, the surer he was that he was doing the right thing.
"And the caseworker who is already looking for a place for them, how are you going to explain that you're suddenly approved to take these kids?" Carter asked.
"I'm going to tell him the truth." When Carter's eyes went wide, Beau held up a hand. "I'm going to admit that I had my approval rushed, and that money can buy pretty much anything. Parson wants these kids to stay together as much as I do. He might not be fully accepting of the way I go about it, but he isn't going to cause problems or bring any attention to it."
"You're sure about that?" Bryon asked.
"I am." Beau hoped he was right. He was taking a risk, but from the little he knew of Parson, he didn't think it was going to be a huge issue. "I'm not saying I'll tell him we hacked into the system, just that I had some friends in high places who handled it for me."
"He'll believe that?" Carter asked.
"He will. Parson comes from money. He knows how it can influence things."
"What money?" Bryon asked.
"Parson Detry. His Dad's a huge Hollywood actor and director."
That seemed to calm Bryon down. "Okay, so even if he's not an issue, what about the kids? You have to work. Who's going to be with them when you're not home?"
"I've already looked into hiring a nanny. I'll start interviewing as soon as I get approval for this. I'd like your help with that, running background checks and shit on whoever I pick, but I'm sure I can make this work." Beau had spent the last two days trying to figure everything out. Ever since Parson had told him about the kids being split up, he'd focused on a solution. "I care about these kids, guys. It's not just another abused child. I've formed a relationship with them. They trust me. I want to do this. I know it's quick and probably sounds crazy, but I know in my heart this is the right thing to do."
Bryon sighed.
Carter reached over and gripped Beau's shoulder. "I'll help you. I'll need some information and it might take a day or two to make sure it's all right, but I'll get you approved. You just make sure to handle Parson. He's going to know something is illegal about this. I hope you know for sure you can trust him."
"I do." Beau was pretty sure that he could get Parson behind the idea. The key was to have it all in place and ready to go by the time he told him. "This is all on me. I just need the team's help in getting it in place."
"I'm not worried about the team on this one, I'm worried about you. You're talking about taking in two kids, one who is pregnant, and both who have been through hell over the last year. You know what that does to a child. Are you prepared to deal with the issues that are going to arise?" Bryon asked.
"I am. I'll set them up with Katie, and Faith and Lisa have already met. That will help give Lisa someone to talk to. I'll be there for them no matter what. It's not like I'm just going to drop them off at home and forget them." Beau was sure he could help the kids more than the state would if they were in charge of their treatment and recovery.
"Alright, we're behind you on this. Whatever you need." Bryon nodded to Carter. "Get him set up."
"Thanks." Beau let out a relieved breath. Part of him had really worried that the team wouldn't support his decision.
"How quickly do we need to do this?" Carter asked.
"I can hold the kids a few more days in the hospital, but after that, there will be questions on if they really still need to be there. I plan on adopting them, so whatever you have to do, make sure that I'm approved for that also. I have no clue how it all works, but it's something I'll talk to Parson about once I know the kids can come to my home."
"You seem pretty close to Parson." Carter glanced over at him.
Beau shrugged.
"Something going on there we need to know?" Bryon asked. "It's not like you to let anyone close."
