A glance at his watch told him it was almost go time. "I'll be back. I want to check on some stuff before they leave." He wandered out of the computer room, not shocked to find Faith sitting on the couch. He smiled at the young woman. She was close to graduating high school, and would soon be heading off to college to start working on getting into medical school. She had dreamed of being a doctor from almost the moment he'd met her when she was ten. "You don't have a better way to spend your Friday night?" Carter grinned at her.
"Beau's at the hospital. I figured I better be here if anything happens." She stood, following him into the kitchen.
"You should be out with your friends, not sitting here with all of us." Carter glanced over at her as she leaned up against Xander's back and looked over his shoulder at the paperwork he was studying.
"I am with friends." She grinned. "Besides, it's already past my curfew. I'd have to be home by now anyway. I might as well be here."
He was amazed by Faith. Looking at her made him think about his daughter and imagine what she might be like if she'd lived. They'd been lucky enough to rescue Faith from her kidnapper, and she was a constant reminder about why he created the STK team and took the risks they did.
"We're set to go." Bryon stood up from the table.
"Are you using the new dump site?" Carter asked.
"Yeah, figured it was closer this time. We'll give it a go and see how it works. You good with it?" Bryon asked.
"Perfect. No cameras in the area, and this time of night, you shouldn't have anyone around. Be careful though, it's so secluded that just being there will draw attention. It's not my favorite spot, but it will work from time to time." Carter watched as Kasey and Xander stood, going through the process of making sure they had everything they needed.
"I need to tell Matt I'm leaving." Xander left the room to go see his husband.
Ever since Dyson had been arrested, the team took extra care to make sure they said goodbye to those they loved, since there was no guarantee they'd be back. While they always hoped for the best, Dyson's arrest had been a horrible reminder of how quickly things could go wrong.
"Give us ten minutes to get in the area, then cut the cameras," Bryon told Carter.
Carter nodded, trying hard not to worry. He trusted his team. They were the best at what they did, but as they'd learned, it only took one mistake to bring things to an end. Determined not to let anything go wrong, he headed back into the computer room and focused on the sting site. No matter what, he was bringing his team back home tonight.
