Becca caught her arm. "They'll come inside. Remember, we have to wait here for them so everyone is safe. I promise they'll be here in a second." She ran her fingers through the young girl's hair. She frowned as she saw Xander following Beau into the house. Both had worried looks on their faces as Xander carried a small child wrapped in a blanket. From the protective way he held him, she feared the worst.
"Faith, I need you with me," Beau called as they hurried by them. "Grab the medical supplies we found around the house. I'm not sure what we'll need."
"There he is." Lenora tugged hard on Becca's hand.
Becca turned her attention to the door and smiled as two young boys walked into the house with Kacey. She released Lenora's hand and fought back tears as Lenora rushed to the younger boy and threw her arms around him.
"You're okay?" The boy, who had to be Andy, asked her. He had his face buried against her chest and clung to her tightly.
Lenora nodded. "They promised they'd get you." She smiled back at Becca. "This is my brother, Andy, and this is Geo." She pointed to the older boy.
Becca closed the distance between them and smiled at the two boys. "I'm Becca. I'm so happy you're here with us." She glanced up at Kacey. "Do they need Beau?"
"Not that we're aware of. He'll be busy with Eric for a while. I think we can get these two settled in and find them some food." Kacey put a hand on Geo's shoulder. "We'll get you two some new clothes and other things in the morning. Tonight, we'll let you eat, shower, and get a good night's sleep."
"They can stay in my room." Lenora looked up.
Kacey glanced at Becca. "What do you think?"
"The bed's big enough for all three of them, but it's up to them. There's one unused bedroom if the boys want to be alone," Becca said.
"No, they have to stay with me." Lenora's eyes filled with tears.
"It's okay, Lenora. We'll stay with you tonight and figure it all out tomorrow." Geo reached out and hugged her. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"
"No, I'm okay. Becca and Faith saved me before they could hurt me. They got me away from the mean men." She wiped tears from her eyes. "They brought me here. It's safe here. They're nice to us here." She smiled up at Becca.
"How about we go show the boys the bedroom so they can put their stuff down?" She wondered what was in the bags each carried. "Then we'll go into the kitchen and see if we can make them something small to eat."
"Will Eric be okay?" Geo asked. "Should we be with him?"
"Faith is with him. He's safe," Lenora told him.
"Faith and Beau are making sure he's not injured. Beau is a doctor and Faith is training to be one. Let them examine him and they'll let us know when you can see him. I'm sure he'll be hungry too, so the best thing we can do is make him something to eat." Becca smiled as she turned to lead the children down the hallway to Lenora's bedroom. She noticed the men all gathered in the living room, probably getting briefed by Kacey and the others who had gone after the kids. As badly as she longed to hear what they had to say, she had to focus on the kids. They didn't need to hear the men talk, and she knew they were probably scared as hell, wondering who the hell everyone was and if they were safe here. She had to help keep them calm and assure them that they weren't going to be hurt by anyone there.
"We can eat the cookies." Lenora led them into her room.
"The cookies are a dessert. We can have one after we fix a good meal. I think the boys will probably want more than a cookie to eat. I think there's stuff to make burgers or we can do spaghetti or something." Becca smiled as the boys looked at Lenora's room. Since it belonged to Danny Prescott's daughter. It was decked out in everything a young girl could want.
"Wow, this room is cool. Who lives here?" Geo turned in a circle as he looked around.
"A friend of Becca's who has a girl my age. She's letting me borrow it." Lenora proudly jumped onto the bed.
"It's girly." Andy frowned.
"We'll stay with Lenora tonight. Then maybe tomorrow we can get our own room. She can always stay with us." Geo glanced at Becca. "Right?"
"Of course. Whatever helps you guys all be comfortable and feel safe." She nodded to the bags the boys carried. "What's in the bags?"
"Oh, here." Geo knelt and opened his bag. He pulled out a brown stuffed animal. "Can you take Brownie to Eric? He never sets it down, but the man forced…" He bit his lip and glanced at Lenora.
Becca understood. She didn't have a clue what had happened back at the house, but the way Xander had rushed into the house with Eric in his arms, it wasn't good. "I'll go give it to him right now. You guys take a minute to get comfortable and when I get back we can find you food." She smiled at Lenora. "Show them where the bathroom is, okay?"
Lenora nodded.
Leaving them to talk, Becca took the worn bear plushie with her. When she saw Faith rushing down the hallway, she caught her arm. "How is he?"
"He'll recover, but it's not good. There's a lot of damage. Beau can help, but we don't have the stuff we need. I'm not sure what he's going to do." Faith started to walk away, clearly in a hurry.
