“Does it involve your tiny trouble-magnet wife?”
“No, for a change. Not only is she not involved, she doesn’t even know it’s happening.”
Hank snorted. “Oddly, I don’t think that makes me feel better about it. She may be trouble, but she’s handy to have on your side in a fight.”
“Pretty sure I can hold my own, Hank.”
“Hmph. Okay, I’ll arrange the flight. You said there were two favors.”
“Yeah. I’m going to ask Jordana to stay with Finn and Fiona. And she’s more than competent to take care of them. But … this probably not legal thing I’m about to do … I’m not sure there won’t be fallout.”
“Fallout,” Hank repeated.
“Right.”
“Someone knows where you live?”
“Unfortunately.”
“How long are you going to be gone?”
“One day.”
“I’ll send a team to sit on the house overnight. Tell Jordana to let the kids know Uncle Hank will be over in the morning to walk them to school. If you’re not back in time to pick them up, I’ll bring them back to my place in the afternoon. My kids will be thrilled to see them, anyway.”
“I owe you.”
“And I’ll probably collect. Now, the fourth quarter is starting so let me go make these calls.”
“Yeah, sure. Thanks, Hank.”
“No problem. Do you want to be armed on the plane?”
“If you can arrange it, it would be good.”
“Bring your Sig. I’ll make it happen.”
Leo ended the call and went upstairs to talk to Jordana, who was more than happy to help him out.
Twenty minutes later, he threw a change of clothes into a duffle bag, removed his Sig Sauer and ammunition from the safe, and kissed his sleeping children on their sweaty little foreheads. He tiptoed down the stairs and gave Jordana a close look.
“Are you sure you don’t want to have Maisy or someone come to stay with you?”
She arched one pierced eyebrow. “I’m positive. Iamthe babysitter. I don’tneeda babysitter. I have Mocha, Java, and the streaming password. And I know where Sasha hides the good ice cream.”
He did a double-take. “The salted caramel stuff she buys at the fancy European store? Where does she stash it?”
“As if I’d tell you.”
“Lock the door behind me.”
“And leave the motion-sensing lights on for Hank’s guys, I know. I’ve got this. Will you leave already? Go save the world. And remember, Maisy gets the exclusive for the Farley Files.”
“Like you two would let me forget.” He laughed, then grew serious. “Really though, thank you for doing this.”
“You’re welcome. Just promise you’ll tell Sasha as soon as you see her.”
He gave her a somber look. “You can’t imagine how much this is weighing on me. I can’t wait to come clean with her.”
