His voice lowered and turned dark.“I don’t like that you don’t trust me or what we have together.”
“But...”
“There are no buts, Baby.Do you trust me?”
“I...”
“Answer me,” his tone brooked no argument.
“I just don’t know how you could want someone like me if you could have her,” she cried out and gripped his wrists on either side of her head.
“Jesus, woman.I thought we dealt with this.If I had a choice between the two of you, I would always choose you.She might be beautiful, but so are you, and you’ve got something she’ll never have.”
“What?”
“A heart.You care about other people.You would never intentionally hurt anyone and get pleasure from it.The only person your sister cares about is herself.Right?”
Amelia nodded.A tide of embarrassment encompassed her.
Tenderness consumed him.Jaylen speared his fingers into her hair, holding her head up to his.“I love you,” he whispered against her lips.
Amelia closed her eyes as a sob slipped out of her throat.
“I’m sorry,” she mouthed.
“I love youand only you.”Jaylen lowered his head and took her mouth.The kiss quickly turned hot.His tongue swept into her mouth to duel with hers.They broke apart.He pulled back a bit and wiped away the tears she couldn’t seem to stem.
“Do you believe me?”
Amelia nodded and sniffed.“Yes.”
Jaylen stared at her for a moment.“Don’t you ever leave me again.Do you understand?”
Amelia’s hand clutched his shirt in her fists.The dark, threatening tone of his voice sent a shiver up her spine, not in fear.She’d never been afraid of him.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know you are.But you’re still in deep trouble.”
Her eyes widened.“Trouble?”she asked and swallowed.
“Oh, yeah.”
She relaxed when she caught the spark of mischief in his eyes.
“What does that mean exactly?”she murmured and rubbed a hand over his chest.
He locked his hands in her hair, preventing her from moving.
“It means you’re going to have to pay for scaring me so badly.”
Amelia closed her eyes and rubbed her cheek against his palm.“How?”
He paused for an instant.“You’re going to marry me and have my children.”
Her eyes burst open, and shock coursed through her, leaving her speechless for a moment.After a second, Amelia chuckled through her tears.These tears were much different than the ones earlier.
“Oh, I don’t know.That’s asking a lot, isn’t it?”
