“Count on it.”

“While you were resting—” Song coughed, averting his eyes from Griffin “—Jake and I had a couple of beers while we waited for the system to reset. We saved the last one for you—it’s nice and cold.” Song brandished a bottle from behind his back.

“It’s actually really good, boss,” Jake added, the corner of his mouth angled upward slightly.

Griff took the bottle from Song to twist off the cap for Halley. She took a long swig, the smooth liquid cool against her dry throat. At the very finish, the taste of peanut butter crossed her tongue. She offered the bottle to Griff to sample. “That’s not bad at all.”

Griff nodded in agreement. “I’m not a stout guy, but that’s damn good right now.”

“Alright, well let’s tie up everything here nice and neat, then we can go to the brewery for lunch. On the way, let’s strategize the report that we need to have complete for the chief by Monday. I’m going to need each of you to provide me with details for thisplanned test.” Her eyes shined as she emphasized those last two words.

“Really, you’re down to go to the brewery, boss?” Song grinned.

“You and Jake already had a couple. Griff and I need to catch up,” she smiled coyly.

Griffin wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close. “Yes, we do.”
