Why is he switching it up now? Shut up, Kendra, don’t block your blessings. She paused for a beat. “So a sex date? Isn’t that just a Netflix and chill situation?”
“I don’t know what it’s called.” He sounded equal parts annoyed and amused.
“Maybe it needs to have a code name.”
“You’re really into codes, aren’t you, with this whole speakeasy thing?”
“Ah, so now you’re getting it,” she said, smiling slyly.
“Yeah, I guess so. Just don’t ask me to make up a secret handshake.”
She pouted playfully. “So what’s our code gonna be?”
Ben hummed. “I think it should be something in reference to boxing.”
Kendra’s brow furrowed. “Boxing? How did we get to boxing?”
“Round two, remember?”
Her head bobbed in recognition. “Right, got it. I’ll admit, I don’t know a whole lot about boxing, so this is going to bean educational experience.”
“So what do you say, champ? Are you up for another round?”
“Maybe,” she responded quietly. “You promise you won’t get super drunk and forget again?”
“I promise, though I only got drunk because of a certain someone. This time, we’ll stick to a two-drink maximum.”
“Okay, deal. I still can’t believe that you’re such a lightweight,” she teased.
“Whatever, Kenny. I’ll let you get back to cleaning your house now.”
“Alright, what are you about to do?”
“I’m about to go take a cold shower while I think about our rematch.”
Kendra squeezed her eyes shut as mental images of his solid frame materialized. “Bet. You let me know when you’re ready torumble.”
He laughed. “Save the references unless you’re ready to cash in.”
“I stay ready.”
“Mmm-hmm, remember you said that, and keep that same energy.”
Kendra grinned and tossed her phone onto the duvet cover. “A shower sounds like a good idea,” she muttered.
The next day at the restaurant, Kendra had a hard time averting her eyes from BJ. Every time he walked past, or his shoulder brushed against her, or she caught his eye from acrossthe room, sensations manifested within her body. Her pulse increased. Her mouth went dry. She got goose bumps on her arms. A shiver went down her spine as a flutter and bloomed in her stomach.
Her body craved something that he couldn’t even remember. And that fact would snap her out of her stupor, and she’d look away.
Is it just me, or why is it that every time I look at him, he’s looking at me?
“Hey, cuz.” Lani popped up at Kendra’s side.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
Lani captured Kendra’s attention, and Kendra mentally made a note to thank her cousin later.
“We’re all done with the cleanup and the restock. So, once BJ finishes with the glasses and you’re done with the till, we’llbe ready to close up.”
