Her last experience hadn’t been anything like this.
It was an unworthy thought. Ada didn’t want to think about the man who’d pushed up her skirts and taken her roughly in the meadow that sunny afternoon. Though she’d wanted him from kissing alone, from his hand on her breast, it had hurt a bit. He’d done nothing to ensure she enjoyed the experience.
Thiswas different. Thierry’s member was larger, thick, and heavy against her tongue and in her hand when she’d licked him, but he slid into her with a smooth stroke and buried himself inside her with a low groan of masculine satisfaction.
Wonderingly, she took in the feeling of his body pressed against hers from shoulder to ankle. The way he stretched her. Joy filled her heart when their gazes met, and he smiled.
He moved, and she gasped. He surged, sending pleasure coursing through her limbs, racing up her spine. Thierry became her entire world with each desperate thrust.
“Purr for me, kitten,” he growled into her ear, and she laughed at the absurdity of it. When was the last time she’d laughed with someone she cared about?
Not in years. Never like this.
She knew this was only one night. It meant nothing to a man like Thierry Desmarais. Yet it meant everything to her.
Her hands danced up and down his back, feeling the muscles bunch and release with each powerful thrust. Ada arched to meet him and was rewarded with a soft grunt of satisfaction. Her first time had been over before she dared to move. This was not a man taking pleasure while she gave; it was an exchange. Wholly different, while being precisely the same, physically.
Tension built and pooled within her. A sound she’d never made before burst out of her in staccato breaths as release took her. Thierry’s rhythm quickened, then broke, turning jagged as he panted into the crook of her neck. At the very last moment, his features strained, he pulled out and spilled his seed on her stomach.
“You kept your word,” she said on an exhale.
His cerulean eyes locked on hers. “Of course, I did. I lie about insignificant facts, Ada. Not things of utmost importance.”
“Like your name?” she teased.
He grinned. “Precisely. Although that wasn’t a lie, precisely. It is the name I use whenever I am on British soil. The law, you see, is well aware of Le Fantôme and embarrassed by his exploits. Using a forgettable English name allows me to move about unnoticed.”
“You are the last man who could possibly go anywhere unnoticed,” said Ada.
Afterward, they lay entwined while he idly stroked her shoulder with his thumb. Thierry was the one to break the silence, with a chuckle.
“You’ve given me another reason to call you ‘kitten’.”
“I have?”
“The sound you make when you find your pleasure is like a tiny cat mewing.” He braced himself on his forearms. Damp tendrils of hair stuck to his temples and the nape of his neck. Ada would have said he glowed with happiness; she felt the same way.
“I do not.”
“Do so. It’s adorable. I could listen to your climax forever.” Gently, tenderly, he kissed her forehead. Ada yawned.
“You, sir, are preposterous.” She kicked the blankets out from under them. Together, they pulled them up and lay nestled like two spoons.
“Mm. I’m not the one who feeds the village geese.”
Thierry’s gentle taunt was the last thing she heard before slipping into a deep and restful slumber.

In the gray dawn, the flock outside honked, seeking the breakfast that Ada never delivered. Reluctantly, she attempted to roll out of bed, only to be yanked back hard against Thierry’s warm chest.
“Let the damned geese starve,” he grumbled. Ada giggled.
They made love that way, with his front against her back and his hand on the apex of her sex, pulling more of those mewling sounds out of her every time she came.
It was late when they finally made their way downstairs. Ada mixed batter for muffins and cooked them on a flat iron pan, along with the contents of two eggs she’d collected the day before. Carefully, she poked a pin through the top and bottom and held the white ovals over a bowl to drain.
“I still owe you an eggless meal in town,” Thierry said, kissing her shoulder as he watched.
