Allison nodded. “Yeah. I figured that’s what he would want.”
“What about you?”
She exhaled. “I think that’ll depend on what the others have to say. Hopefully they can answer a few questions.”
“We’ve got the best of the best here,” Tim said. “Including you. We’ll get it figured out.”
Allison shook her head. “I sure hope so, because that boy cangrieve.”
“Well grab a front-row seat, because I don’t think he’s done yet.”
He watched her join the others in the living room. Then he gathered up his courage before climbing the stairs. He found Ben in their office, poking at an old nineties-style computer.
“Stupid thing!” he was saying. He spun around in the chair when hearing Tim. “Our bandwidth sucks!”
“Uh,” Tim said, cocking his head in confusion. “I didn’t realize the internet existed here.”
“It doesn’t,” Ben said as he stood. “It’s a symbolic link to the Akashic Records. I was trying to learn more about soul transmigration.”
“Maybe the others can help,” Tim said. “Everyone is here. Marcello and Eric just showed up.”
“Good!” Ben said, already heading for the door.
Tim caught him on the way out. “Go easy on them,” he said. “We’re all on the same side.”
“That’s what I’m hoping.” Ben’s eyes were filled with desperate need.
Tim let him go and followed him downstairs to the living room.
Ben went into business mode immediately. “Hi everyone. Yes yes, nice to see you again. Take a seat please.”
Tim sat between Eric and Marcello on the couch. Brian and Allison were already in one of the loveseats, Michelle and Greg taking the other. Ben stood in front of them all, pacing back and forth before he launched into his pitch.
“As you all know, Jace and Victor decided to reincarnate so they could live a happier life together. And their plan has already gone terribly wrong.”
“What?” Michelle cried, leaning forward. “What happened?”
“They ended up in different states!” Ben declared.
“Oh.” Michelle leaned back again. “That’s okay, isn’t it? You and Jace were born in different states.”
“And if I’m not mistaken,” Marcello chimed in, “Tim was born in Kansas, and you were a lifelong Texan, and yet you still managed to find each other.”
“They left so they could be together,” Ben stressed, “and that’s not happening, so we have to do something. Does anyone know a way of bringing them back?”
Everyone shook their heads.
Except for Marcello. “Hmm. Would it be possible to possess someone on Earth and have them murder Jace and Victor?”
“They’re still babies!” Allison said.
“Then we won’t need a skilled assassin,” Marcello said. “That should simplify matters.”
Brian shook his head at this. “Why don’t we give the guys a nudge in the right direction? Jace used to do things like that.”
“Good idea!” Ben said before his face crumpled. “If only he was still here to explain how.”
“I understand how some of that works,” Eric offered. “But I’m not sure they’ll have much choice until they are older. We would need to influence their parents. Does anyone have a connection to them? That will be crucial.”
